Winter Wind

    This morning
    you can hear
    my flute and sound
    coming from the sky.
    This morning
    I will bring to you
    smell of snow
    from the mountain
    and soft snowflakes touch
    on your skin.

    Today
    white eagle will fly
    on my wings.
    Today
    I will comb your hair
    with my cold fingers
    and play with your tent,
    with smoke and leaves.

    Tonight
    I will cover the river
    with silvery tiny ice.
    I will sing with wolves
    and I will hide
    your love whisper.
    Tonight
    Spirit of life
    will visit your wife.

    Soon
your new son will be born
with my name on your lips.

I would say this is a brilliant piece of writing. I loved each word. My association with snow is minimal as I live in a place where snow is only on the TV. But you took me with you for just a short while. Thank you for posting this poem.

As you said:Beyond the flesh is a spirit waiting to be seen. Same is with my poetry. From time to time I must leave my spirit to fly free like a wind. Thank you Amunet for your time to read and comment my poetry.

Ak! I just noticed that the contest was already completed and that you won silver! It is well deserved. My apologies. My onle excuse is the lateness of the hour and the burning of my eyes. Congratulations. Again, this is a humbling and seemlingly sacred work of poetry.

This piece gave me the chills. Its spiritual blessing seems to echo through ages to reach the reader. I just read the contest requirements and I think that this piece does an admirable job of living up to them. Good Luck! You've more than got my vote.

Thank you Dawn for you so nice comment and applause. It worth a gold to me. James asked me the same. I was always amazed how Indian lives in peace and united with nature. I am glad if I have done something good and some of my poems are tribute to their life and customs.

    Beautiful!

Hello Sonja, What a beautiful poem about the sounds of winter!! I was just outside with my daughter the other night, it was so majestic and the winter breeze was the only sound we could hear. It was so peaceful! And you managed to put it into beautiful words. Thanks for sharing this lovely poem, I will have to show it to her!! Best wishes in the contest! Jasmine

    Merry Christmas

OK, are you Croation or Indian? Super job Sonja! So pretty, so natural, very Indian, I am amazed at your versatility. Hey we have also the love of the Indian culture in common, I too love their belief's. In the Sioux culture, now is the time of our lives we give back, freely. Sioux women do not ever buy clothing again. They rely on the clothing they have acquired over the years. Sorry, getting wordy, anyway this is EXCELLENT!
