If he could think he'd be dangerous.
A phrase I've heard so many times.
But lack of thought can be serious.
It is the basis of so many crimes.
The soldier blindly accepting orders.
Assuming his officers are never wrong.
Heedlessly crosses moral borders
And is called war criminal before too long.
The harassed motorist with foot to pedal
Ignoring those signs to limit his speed.
Kills a child with two tons of metal.
Thought might have avoided this dreadful deed.
Foolish electors voting by habit.
Echoing the choices of their mum and dad.
If only they had just thought a little bit.
A better government we might have had.
Before indulging in any undertaking.
A little thought would be a good idea.
It might not effect the course your taking.
But it might help keep your conscience clear!

Thanks for your encouragement. It's not often I get serious and it's good to know it's appreciated when I do.

Excellent
Very well thought out poem. Gets straight to the point at every turn and is all so very true. I love your rhyme, nothing trite about it. Does not read as if you had to force a rhyme. -
Thanks for the nice comment and generous applause.

Yes, Indeed, a little thought can go a long way. Nice litte rant here, Jim, and one that I tend to think is right on. Good luck with this one...

Great job!!! I loved what you said about people voting out of habit. I think the quote that we commented on implied that we as a society are doing almost everything out of habit. The art of thinking is fading.

Hello again Bel.
You've found my little secret. I do like rhymes. They divide poetry and prose. IMHO
Thanks also for your generous applause.

Yay! Rhymes at long last, I have been reading enteries in a contest I held and there's way too much free-verse and no one used spell check, so this is nice to read. It flows nicely and the message is strong, like in the other one.
