The wicked king of Zorr

Faraway in the land of Zorr
Lived a wicked king
A beast of sorts, an arrogant fox
He was known for inflicting misery and pain

One day he went on his `misery’ hunt
Searching for his next victim
He saw a lad, a li’ll boy
And he grinned his horrid, toothless smile

``Hey little boy, in those dirty rags,
Not a penny, nor a dime you’ve got
Why on earth do you live, my friend
You’re surely a burden on this land.”

``Bow this minute,
Salute me, your king
Or else you’ll be sorry
For ever being born.”

Saying this, he laughed out loud
Reveling in the pain his words must have caused
His devilish mind busy making a devious plan
To hurt the boy and make him cry

But the boy smiled a broad angelic smile
And looked at him with pitiful eyes
``God, forgive this man for his cruel ways,
Give him light to brighten his days.”

Stumped by his words, the king took a step back
``Poor boy! You obstinate fool!
I’ll teach you a lesson
For not having bowed.”

The king tried fire
But the rains smothered it
Next came a cannon
Which refused to explode!
Ice that melted into tiny drops of water
A bow, that broke before the archer threw!

…There was absolutely nothing the king could do
As the boy stood his ground, proud and tall

The king fumed with rage
Making the ground beneath tremble
And the skies above take a spin
The trees fell…the wind blew

And then there was a deafening silence all around
As the king had a stroke and fell to the ground

The boy ran to him, through the guards-walled place
And took out a herb from his small bundle of clothes
He ground it to paste between the palms of his hands
And stuffed it down the throat of the kingly man

All gasped and were shell-shocked
As the king spluttered and choked
Till he stood up straight, all 6 feet and one
And before the boy the proud king, now filled with shame, broke

Yes, the king changed in a jiffy
Coz he now realized
The power of love
That protected the boy

From harm and pain
From feelings of revenge and shame

And from then on as they say
Things changed
…And change for the better, they did
That’s for sure!

    Very good

It is a tale told very simply and well. The moral it points is a bonus. Loved to read it. Aesop would have become jealous reading this poem.

I like this story you have written. Althought the power of God is not actually seen this way in real life, He does have the power to give us inner strength to fight off words that would normally hurt. This is written somewhat like a fable. Very well done.
