Winter Wonder

Missing image
first snowfall arrives

juncos search for seed and sun

the Lord provides all

Author notes

I've been watching the juncos (snowbirds) all day. They are so beautiful. They fly onto my deck which is covered with 12 inches of fresh snow. Somehow they know to go to my feeder for food. They are so beautiful and truly represent a winter wonder to me. God is so good to all his creation.

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"                                   -Matthew 6:26 KJV

aww this graphic is so sweet. I've never seen a junco before. I love the scripture you've chosen to represent the haiku ... which is very good by the way.

    Beautiful!

I read this earlier today and didn't have time to comment. Throughout the night here in Michigan we had gotten several inches of snow. I was standing outside an office building by a cluster of bushes. Three little birds landed on the branches and your beautiful poem came to my mind and brightened my day immensely. I am glad I did not have the time to comment earlier because I would not have had this little story to add to it. Your last line says it all, "the Lord provides all." He sure provided a thought provoking moment for me with your poem in mind. Good luck in the contest. Your friend in Poetry, Mysty Rain

I am so glad you liked this little poem. We, too, had our first snow storm today and I had these precious birds return to my deck. God is so good! I love the way he works!

I like this poetry form because it allows you to say so much in so few words. I think the use of picture works well along side the poem. The final line of your haiku is my favourite it is very true. Thanks for entering.

This piece is so beautiful. THe lord does provide all that the juncos need to live. It is so sweet that you have given them seeds to live off of. Is that a picture that you took of one of them? Well, it is a great and cute picture and matches the imagery that your traditional haiku gives off. Keep up the great work and great job!

That was such a totally adorable picture!!! A very nice haiku too, though I had some shrugs with the last line... But that's just me I'd have put 'nature provides all', but that's a subjective thought. Nice write anywayz!

I pretty much only have to agree with everyone else, this is truly beautiful in it's simplicity. I am quite amazed by the fact that something so small can be so hard to do for some people (such as myself). But I do believe you have shown the simplest form of truth in this. wonderful job

    superb haiku

A beautiful Haiku; traditionalk; rich alliteration in line 2; a sacred reflection in line 3. The picture deserves the beauty of your haiku. God paints so beautifully and none so beautifully as does in white! It is a heart-warming poem and the Christine injunction you quoted is quite apposite. Thank you. Lyndon Wise.

I do believe this is the first time I've heard the word "juncos" used in a poem of any kind at all. lol. I have to say it has quite the nice ring to it. I'm a fan of haikus however, so perhaps I'm slightly biased by it all. Lovely work. The picture (and I normally don't like the accompaniment of art with poetry) created a beautiful backdrop for your piece, and it was very fitting.
