juncos search for seed and sun
the Lord provides all
Author notes
I've been watching the juncos (snowbirds) all day. They are so beautiful. They fly onto my deck which is covered with 12 inches of fresh snow. Somehow they know to go to my feeder for food. They are so beautiful and truly represent a winter wonder to me. God is so good to all his creation.
"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" -Matthew 6:26 KJV

aww this graphic is so sweet. I've never seen a junco before. I love the scripture you've chosen to represent the haiku ... which is very good by the way.

Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Beautiful!
I read this earlier today and didn't have time to comment. Throughout the night here in Michigan we had gotten several inches of snow. I was standing outside an office building by a cluster of bushes. Three little birds landed on the branches and your beautiful poem came to my mind and brightened my day immensely. I am glad I did not have the time to comment earlier because I would not have had this little story to add to it. Your last line says it all, "the Lord provides all." He sure provided a thought provoking moment for me with your poem in mind. Good luck in the contest. Your friend in Poetry, Mysty Rain

I am so glad you liked this little poem. We, too, had our first snow storm today and I had these precious birds return to my deck. God is so good! I love the way he works!

I like this poetry form because it allows you to say so much in so few words. I think the use of picture works well along side the poem. The final line of your haiku is my favourite it is very true. Thanks for entering.

Simple yet beautiful little piece. I'd never heard of juncos before, so the picture adds a lot for me as does the explanation. Nice little piece.

This piece is so beautiful. THe lord does provide all that the juncos need to live. It is so sweet that you have given them seeds to live off of. Is that a picture that you took of one of them? Well, it is a great and cute picture and matches the imagery that your traditional haiku gives off. Keep up the great work and great job!
-
Wow...just wow...I loved it and it's written in a soft tone...winter is sooo the best season!
-
That was such a totally adorable picture!!! A very nice haiku too, though I had some shrugs with the last line... But that's just me
I'd have put 'nature provides all', but that's a subjective thought. Nice write anywayz!
-
I pretty much only have to agree with everyone else, this is truly beautiful in it's simplicity. I am quite amazed by the fact that something so small can be so hard to do for some people (such as myself). But I do believe you have shown the simplest form of truth in this. wonderful job
-
awesome photo
your haiku is perfect catching many aspects of winter in few words.
the ending encompasses all.
very well done

I have always had a great respect for people who can create a successful haiku, as it has always been a skill that has eluded my grasp. I enjoy the nature theme.
-
That was lovely1! The snowbirds are very pretty birds. Great haiku!
May the Lord bless you this Christmas season!

Very cool
Very spiffy. Short, and to the point, yet profound. -
its simple and wonderful.
-
Nice job.
Yes, He really does. I love the background you chose and the
picture. They look great together. I enjoyed the Haiku, as well. A nice job all round. Shancy. -

-
This is wonderful haiku and the image you have shown fits the imagery of your words perfectly. I love watching those sweet little birds. There's a lady here who got me hooked on it. Great job!
♥ Touchof1der -
superb haiku
A beautiful Haiku; traditionalk; rich alliteration in line 2; a sacred reflection in line 3. The picture deserves the beauty of your haiku. God paints so beautifully and none so beautifully as does in white! It is a heart-warming poem and the Christine injunction you quoted is quite apposite. Thank you. Lyndon Wise. -
that was beautiful picture aww the picture is so cute and went along with your writting i lov eit how you expressed about god in 3 lines brillant.
-
Written well.
This is true and I have an old cat that always comes by for a bite to eat. I finally got to pet the cat today. I guess the cat is old but still knows where to find food as does the birds. This was a great read indeed. -
Beautiful
-
Wow this is wonderful!

This is a beautiful Haiku. Very well done. I like the thought very much... Nature is beautiful, but this is not man made but provided by God. And that's true!!!

Very neat, evocative haiku. I like it a lot. Where I live in the UK we don't get deep snow very often. The picture is great. Good luck in the contest. -

She was a teenage corpse.

excellent!
I love snow!!! great poem! -
Good
Nice technicality, nice visual, nice sentiment -
Such simple words that hold so much more than what's written on the page. God cares for the birds of the air, how much more He cares for us. Lovely job, Joanne! Beautiful in every way. vj
-
I do believe this is the first time I've heard the word "juncos" used in a poem of any kind at all. lol. I have to say it has quite the nice ring to it. I'm a fan of haikus however, so perhaps I'm slightly biased by it all. Lovely work. The picture (and I normally don't like the accompaniment of art with poetry) created a beautiful backdrop for your piece, and it was very fitting.
-
Beautiful. The picture was lovely too, it really contrasted well with your poem. Keep it up, I loved it,
Love Laura xoxox
