They're Here!
We did not always have the wish,
it came on over the years.
Then we wondered if they'd ever leave,
and that became our greatest fear.
"She did this" and "She did that!"
"Tell her to quit touching my stuff!"
Every time was not that bad,
but some were a little rough.
They joined their clubs and played their games,
all the things school children do.
Borrow the car,"I won't go to far."
"Can I have an extra twenty,or two?"
We watched them grow and discover,
all the different things in this life.
The boyfriends came and then they would go,
then our oldest became a wife.
The first seemed to take forever,
all the sudden they all were gone.
I remembered the days use to fly by,
now the nights are so quiet and long.
It didn't take long for things to change.
Our children's family's began to grow.
Its Maw and Paw Paw's house this weekend,
that's where all the grandchildren go!
They run down the stairs and all through the house,
Maw screaming," Please slow down!"
We now relish the quiet, on the weekdays
for soon we know they'll be around.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.
Each and every one of them are dear.
I love them all with all my heart,
but OH My God, "They're Here!"

LOL ... I love the ending. I have both of my adult grandchildren with me at the moment. They're either the best friends or fighting. Thankfully I have a big house and can retreat ... nice job on the write and thank you for entering.

oh so true!
I'm not there yet in my mommy life, but with my sister, who also has a son...it was just 19 years ago I changed my first diaper - and it was hers. When my son was born, it took a single look, & I was madly in love with him. I love my 9 year old sis more than a sister, but not as much as I love my son...which I will never fully understand. Yes, I believe in love at first sight!!! Lol! Part of me can't wait. Another part of me doesn't want it to ever happen. Either way, I'm enjoying my perfect little 8 month old bundle!!!!
Thanks, Uncle Shaker!

Awww what a great poem! I know how quickly those chaotic childhood years fly by and before you know it you're left sitting amongst the aftermath. This is a great write. Thanks for entering.

GREAT
loved this!! and, yes, it made me laugh but sad at the same time as my 3 are grown, daughter 26 and 2 sons, one 22 and one who will be 20 in January. my youngest is over in Iraq. will hate when the house is empty and they are all gone.

Ha! I'm only a parent, so I will be "dreading" the days to come! Terrific stuff, very well written, and the poem had a nice rhythm to it.
Good Luck. -

Shakes-spear, this is just wonderful!
You put a big old smile on my face this morning! I know exactly what you're describing here, except that I never did get them all out at once to have a quiet house! It's wonderful when the grandkids stay and drive me crazy like their parent used to! Fabulously written!

giggles and wiggles
dear Shakes,
yes, while they might get on one's nerves as we age, the silence of them not being around is often heart silencing. Ahh, for the running of liitle feet across the wooden floor and the slamming of the screen door with giggles galore. You are blessed.
best of luck,

Darling
In absence baby's souls
still demand a control
from years of giving
nurturing their independent living.

LoL nice poem and it's okay to be a little exasperated... aren't grandchildren supposed to be the best revenge? This is humorous. Thanks for entering the contest. Good Luck -Pome

This is priceless.
Oh this was priceless and well all too soon the grandkids are grown with kids of their own. Sort of a revenge on the kids but this was very delightful to read. I loved how you put this. -
What a priceless read.
This is love-filled anecdote. It scares me sometimes to think how fast my boys are growing up. They're 10 months now but it feels like they were born yesterday. I suppose me and my fiance have it all ahead and it certainly aint a quiet road at the moment but its an adventure. A beutiful adventure. Somewhere in the future I hope our home is as happy as your waiting for the grandkids ( so scary even thinking bout that right now)
Thank you for entering
Best of luck
Big respect
Peace
Jack
