Four Types Of Attractions

Mauve sat upon a swing in the rather large backyard of the mansion her family lived in. She was looking out distantly over the green landscape as she sat, fingers loosely clinging to the chains. She wasn't swinging herself, just sitting there idly like she always did when she had a lot on her mind, or if she was upset. Today it seemed to be a mixture of both because the girl had just started to realize something she'd never really thought about before then. After all, she was only fifteen years old; the second youngest in her rather large family. She had five older siblings and one younger sibling and their ages varied in a rather large quantity from over a hundred to fifty or more. Their parents had been together for two hundred years, after all.

None of this, however, was a problem to the young girl. The problem was that she'd been finding herself rather smitten with one of her three elder sisters, Silaquil. She wasn't quite sure...WHY she felt the way she did either. Most girls were supposed to like boys, weren't they? She never really had much of an interest in boys. No one else in her family seemed to have this kind of problem either. Her mother was quite happy with her father. Silaquil liked boys; she kept fawning over them on television. Zabrina seemed to be smitten with Zaccheus, their brother; the two were twins.

She shook her head a little as she looked down into her lap, rose-tinted tresses tumbling down over her shoulders. She kicked at the ground idly as tears stung at her eyes. Why was she different? Everyone else seemed to be normal, but she just seemed...weird. She wasn't like any of her other siblings. She used to be like Silaquil, but she wasn't anymore...Not since this had happened. She didn't want to change at all though. She used to feel comfortable with all of her family, but now it just seemed to make her feel like she didn't fit in. There was only one exception with that; her eldest brother, Diente. For some reason, they'd always been close, and she was completely comfortable with him in every way. He always made her smile, or laugh. Most of the time, just thinking about him made her smile.

As if on cue, she felt a little nudge to her back, causing her to instantly grab a better hold upon the chains of the swing. She knew who it was as two hands came down upon her back, giving her a firm push so that she was swinging back and forth now. Her pink locks were forced back behind her and flowed out in a rosy wave, then were forced into her back as she swung backward again. A slight smile lightened her features, but she was still heavily troubled with what was wrong with her.

It wasn't long before Diente's soft voice rang out in her ears. "What's the matter, Petite? You're usually the sunshine of this field, and today it seems like a cloud has covered the light."

Mauve couldn't help the little giggle that escaped her. "I'm not five anymore, you know," she said playfully. Excitement rose in her chest as he pushed her higher, though his question still stuck in her head. What WAS the matter with her anyway?

Diente chuckled softly as he continued to push his sister to and fro upon the swing. "No, you really AREN'T five anymore, are you? Turning into to a lovely young woman ready for picking." He grinned broadly, though she couldn't see it. "But seriously, what's the matter?"

Mauve frowned slightly as Diente continued to push her upon the swing until she skidded herself to a halt. "I don't know what's the matter with me. All I know is that it doesn't seem right and I feel like I don't fit in anywhere anymore. I don't want to be different. I want to be the same."

Diente arched an eyebrow, tilting his head to the right and slanting his hips to the left as he thought over her words before walking around her, then squatted down in front of her. He looked up into her sad, erubescent gaze with a slight smile, his arctic eyes were filled with concern. "How do you feel different, Petite? What makes you feel like you don't fit in anymore?"

Mauve didn't look at him, feeling quite ashamed of it all. "...I...I'm not attracted to boys. I seem to be attracted to girls...and I have a crush on Silaquil. No one else seems to have this problem but me...and it makes me feel like there's something wrong with me."

Diente instantly covered his mouth with his hand, stroked the sides of his face and chin idly as he held back the giggles that were threatening to surface. He really couldn't help it, since the girl was fifteen years old and didn't know that things like this were common. He spent a long moment pondering on...just HOW he should explain it all without sounding...overly blunt or crude.

Mauve slowly turned her gaze to meet her brother's after a while, finding it strange that he hadn't said...anything yet. Did that mean there really WAS something wrong with her? Her crimson eyes took on a worried, fearful look as she looked into Diente's icy, thoughtful gaze. "Is there really something wrong with me?" she whispered.

Diente snapped back to reality upon hearing his sister's fearful voice. He allowed his hand to fall from his face and smiled at her, shaking his head with a soft chuckle. "No, Petite, there is nothing wrong with you at all...or the fact that you seem to be attracted to girls...and not attracted to boys. This sort of thing is actually quite common. There are some girls who just like girls and some boys who just like boys. Then...there are those who like both boys AND girls. Our family seems to have more of them. People who like those of the same sex and not the opposite sex...We have a name for them. Since you are a girl who likes others girls, and you don't seem to be interested in boys...you are what we call a lesbian. Boys who just like boys, and aren't interested in girls are gay. Those who like both sexes are bisexual."

Mauve stared at Diente with wonder in her eyes; they sparkled with curiosity and enlightenment. "So...everyone is bisexual? But...Sil has never showed any interest in girls. What does that make her?"

Diente bit his lower lip to stop from laughing. Once he had calmed down again, he reached up and stroked Mauve's left cheek with a fond smile. "Silaquil is what we call straight. This means she only likes boys. Boys who only like girls are called straight as well. Everyone ELSE, though, except for maybe Shaq since he's too young to know yet, is bisexual. This includes Mother and Father as well. Just think of it this way: There are four types of attractions; bisexuals, lesbians, gays, and straights. They all like different things in different ways."

Mauve tilted her head to the left and blinked. "But I'm the ONLY one, then, who just likes girls..."

Diente's smile widened; he almost felt like kissing her in that moment. "And Sil is the ONLY one who's straight."

Mauve nodded to that and a ghost of a smile lit her features, though she was slightly sad that Silaquil would never feel the same for her as she did for her sister. However, once Diente had lifted her up into his arms, he started twirling her around, causing her to let out a delighted squeal, and start to giggle hysterically. She held on tightly to his neck until they fell to the ground, her laying on top of him. Her short black dress had almost come up over her, but Diente had quickly pulled it down. Of course, he had some rather lovely thoughts of his own, but even he could see that it was too soon for such things. Mauve was still trying to figure out who she was and he didn't want to screw that up.

"Maybe you should be looking for someone like you, hm?" He said to the girl softly, stroking her back, laying flat upon the ground with his eyes closed. "That would help you get over your crush on Sil."

Mauve had let her head rest heavily upon her brother's chest, her arms still wrapped loosely about his neck. Her face grew a sad expression as she shook her head. "No one would like me."

Diente arched an eyebrow and he sat up, pushing Mauve up with him. "And why not?" He smiled adoringly at her as he pulled her into a hug and let his lips fall to the flesh of her neck. It was so tempting, but he didn't. "I like you."

Mauve blinked a few times, staring blankly for a moment before she snapped out of it. Surely he couldn't mean THAT way. It didn't really matter anyway. She slowly lifted her arms to embrace him back and she closed her eyes. "But that doesn't count," she whispered.

Diente pulled back a little and kissed her forehead. "You've got a long road ahead of you, Petite. You're bound to find someone someday. You're still young and you have plenty of time. Try not to get down about such things, darling." He smirked slightly and winked, "Or I may just have to try to win your heart and prove you wrong myself."

Mauve smirked slowly before she let out a frenzy of giggles. "Don't be silly! I don't like boys like that!"

Diente grinned a little, letting out a giggle himself. "Well maybe I'll be the first one to change that about a lesbian, huh?"

Mauve smiled widely at that, shaking her head with a soft sigh. "You're silly, Diente."

Author notes

Isn't it adorable?

Diente is kind of a joint ownership between myself and Opaque Beauty...even though she made up his bio.
