Lemons by the truckload

When the world just hands you lemons
let me tell you what you do--
You place them on a cutting board
and slice them right in two.
Open up that trusty blender
and throw in all those halves,
then place the top and hit the switch
and watch them swirl and dance.

I know just what I talk about
so make some fresh today--
And if you chose to add a swig,
might help you on your way!
So think on what I’m saying here
and cast those blues away,
'cause lemonade sure swallows best
than whole lemons any day!

Author notes

This is my personal motto in life and just how I've been able to get though (keeping a sense of humor) Hope you enjoy!

Wow this is so weird, this is the second/third poem which has been promoted that ahs actually had something to do with recent events in my own little life can't be bothered to tell you the whole series of events, (if you really are interested, which I doubt you are, then I will, but anyway) This is such a great motto to live by and really funny way of putting it across I like the phrase you used which went "trusty blender" that made me laugh the most, (probably because it was the most non hilarious thing there was in that poem, but then that's what my sense of humour is like!) The rhymes appeared easy and natural and the whole thing was really easy to read, it flowed really well. On a whole, a great write, keep it up, (stupid phrase I know, as I'm sure you will anyway!)

I like the poem, i had a very pleasant and up beat vibe to it. It's funny how things work, you wish and work towards one thing and in the end in turns out totally different.

That's just too funny! Never thought of throwing my lemons in the blender. I suppose once you do that adding a ton of sugar would sweeten them up just right. I love these lines
"then place the top and hit the switch
and watch them swirl and dance."
I envision a verbal or mental blender... I suppose most of the lemons in my life are not as smart as I and I can usually make them swirl and dance. lol

Funny how things work. If you would have past that message in plain words it would have been corny and sound a little preachy, but since you used a metaphore the message works to your adventage. All in all I am glad to see there are positive people out there. Keep spreading the sunshine.

This is an excellent motto to live by. I'm sure we each get our share of lemons and by the looks of some-they look like they get more than their share-but it's probably because they haven't learned your secret of diluting it.
Clever write and best wishes in the contest!~vj

Hi Gregor yep I know the "best" wasn't the best word to use, but the meter wouldn't let me change it

A good bit of life advice wrapped up in a catchy beat. Nicely done. Only thing I don't like is "best" in the penultimate line, but I can't see a way round it.

I make lemonade the old fashioned way, with sliced lemons and cream of tartar.

I'm sure you remember the song "I'm a secret lemonade drinker". When I hear it I always remember a passage in the autobiography of John McVicar, a famous English criminal it was filmed and Roger Daltrey played the lead), where he describes being on the run from Durham jail and hiding out in somebody's garage and discovers a half-empty bottle of lemonade. He becomes a lemonade lover ever after.

That was really encouraging..I mean, after reading all this dark poetry it really feels nice to read this stuff! I like the metaphor, never thought of using it in a poem..good idea
hope to hear more of your work. I like your flow here:

I know just what I talk about
    so make some fresh today--
And if you chose to add a swig,
might help you on your way!
So think on what I’m saying here
    and cast those blues away,
    'cause lemonade does swallow best
    than whole lemons any day!

    keep writing !!!!!!!!
