Loitering

Gathering in search of
The perfect place to ‘chill’
Storefronts or their equivalent
In the back-allies on your street
Yards, cabins, hills, arenas
Wherever is hip, cool or trendy
Even if it’s only trendy to us

Anywhere goes

Ok so we occasionally litter
And you probably don’t like the smells
Of cigarette smoke and puberty
But remember we’re no older than 15
And loitering is still cool

I can see the kids in the alley in back of the arts and craft supply store. They are there by the hours until the police come by and chase them away. But the cops only do that every few days and then the kids are back just as soon as he leaves. I think the shipping pallets are stacked at just the right height for them to sit on. I’d be afraid of splinters or getting my slacks dirty, i forget they are just trying to “be” and for that age (if i remember back, and strain my brain muscle) “being” is very important, more important than “doing.” Funny now that i think about it, all my work in therapy has brought me to learning how to be a human “being” instead of a human “doing.” Love your poem, the crisp line and simple phrase mask your brilliant content. ♥blessings and best wishes,~richard~ ( Åstralshepherd )

I relly like the cute little goth anime girl. Could you hook us up? Unless she's under 15. Then y'know it gets sorta weird. And what are kids supposed to do with no place to hang out? That's one reason drugs are so attractive. It's a way to escape to somewhere when there's nowhere to go.

yeah there were tons of places i remember gathering when it wasn't someone's yard (mainly mine or shawn's back in the day). we'd hang out at the park around the swings [still an ever popular choice] and under a bridge in the bushy area...at one point behind the arena was cool too! so was hanging out on the mountain in various areas. Personal memories and current observations.

actually, come to think of it, i think that covering loitering and trendy hang-outs would be a good article for the school paper

Wow... did this one bring back some memories..and yet...there's nothing like it. just hanging out..being told to "move on" by the cops. Funny, there's plenty of places for little kids to go, and plenty for the adults. But still no where for all the inbetweeners...hmm.. Good luck in the contest.. I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one!
