My Kitty

Missing image

A mid afternoon drive
Down a winding country road
Sweet little kitten
Sitting in the road
Scared, lost and
All alone
A car stops
A young woman
Walking over
Picking up
Cradling in her arms
A pretty lil kitty
Comforting and caring
Consoling and loving
This precious creature
Around the bend
Barreling down
Out of control
Not seeing until
Too late
Screeching breaks
Skid marks
Branded in the pavement
Fifteen feet in length
The scent of
Burnt rubber fills the air
Panic sets in
Beneath the rig
Lies an angelic being
Broken and blood covered
Hanging by a thread
911 and help is on the way
Arriving to late
This beauty got her wings
And floated away
Far too soon
She was taken
All she was remains
In the hearts
Of all who knew her
I thank the Gods
EVERYDAY
That I was blessed
To have known her
To have had her in my life
In chat she was
My wife
In reality, she was
My friend
Still with me she is
I do not doubt
I shall forever miss
My angelic Miss Kitty

Author notes

This is a very special dedication to a most special young lady. Two years ago today An angel soul was taken far too soon. Just a mere 19 yrs old and on her way to college and truly begin her life Janet Hare was killed by truck driver that was going too fast and not paying attention. She stopped on the side of the road to rescue a kitten that was in the middle of the road. With the kitten in her arms she died beneath the rig of that driver. A sweet lady with an amazing heart and soul that will forever be missed. My heart bleeds still today for my angelic Miss Kitty.

May you be blessed where ever you roam sweet soul.....I love you Janet!

I remember reading about this beautiful young lady in another post of yours, and I was as touched now as I was upon first read. You wrote a beautiful tribute to a beautiful young lady [of spirit and face], and "wherever she may roam"<---as you write, maybe she is surrounded by the spirits and presence of all felines that are thankful for her trying to rescue one of theirs......for just as she was all cats are special as well,

I'm in tears...this is as wrenching to the heart as it touching. The beauty in this lovely soul is so easy to see by the selfless act of hoping to rescue an abandoned little feline, helpless and alone. Janet's spirit is one of caring for another before herself. If she would have known of the impending doom of her actions, I doubt she would have changed them. From what I've just read about her, I think she still would have ventured into the road to help a tiny animal in need...

There are a couple things that struck me about this poem, first off was how easily this flowed from one line to the next, it just carried me from top to bottom effortlessly. That alone makes this a great poem, but more importantly was the story that this told, and I think that is what makes this one worth reading more then the quality of the write. This story is two fold, it tells of one who is selfless and caring and it tells of another who is haphazard and careless and the tragedy that occurs when the two paths crossed. I loved this write, I think alot of emotion went into it, but I think it shows that natural talent spawned it, and it is well deserving of three applause!

    Excellent!

Hi CelticMoon~ I just read your poem "My Kitty." It was fantastic and I was moved by your words and descriptions. I am sorry that a truck driver was responsible for the young ladies death. As a truck driver of 27 years, I see and hear all kinds of things. Personally, I have never had an accident and have logged over 3 million miles of driving. Your poem is a great reminder to me that a moment of loss of concentration could result in a lifetime of sorrow.

It is hard not to be touched when we lose some close, but even more so when they are killed trying to help another being. A very nice tribute. ~Jim

    sad~

    Oh this is heartbreaking
To think of such a wonderful soul trying to save a kitten only to not realize she was in harms way herself
This got me all misty eyed
Powerful evoking lots of emotions in this one
    Love n hugs
