Christmas Before Your Mother Was Born

Back before modern department stores,
back when Christmas meant much more.
Before the flashing electric motion lights,
When ornaments home made lit by candles light.

Gifts your great Grandmother made with love,
knitted stockings, satin sashed dresses and gloves.
Great Grandfathers made great wooden toys,
doll carriages for girls and firetrucks for boys.

Fruitcake,candies,cinnamon braids and more,
homemade lovelies cloth wrapped covered the floor.
Under a real pine Christmas fir or scotch tree,
lite your great Grandmomma's eyes with glee.

These days so long ago when Christmas  true spirit lived,
remembering what it felt like when love was what we'd give.

So beautiful Suseann and I wish Christmas was still like this. Now it is a time to dread for most and personally, I've yet to hear the name Christ mentioned concerning Christmas this year, except a few poems on here. It is not what it should be anymore. Well done!

THIS IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL POEM

This is so beautiful! I sometimes sit and wonder that those times were truly the best and most sincere.

    good and nice

    brilliant...
remembering what it felt like when love was what we'd give
they seem to spend half the year brainwashing this out of us...
    the selling of greed...
by the good guys... unbelieveable really
    but most believe dont they...
    u get it though
    im glad
smilling happily skips off into the woodland...
    peace
