A Love Between Poets

Do not lock your heart away
beyond the love of a poet.

Our imperfect societies
lead us to believe
there is only one kind of love.

There are other loves
that we as poets must not forget.
Father/daughter
Sister/brother
Friends
and a love between two poets.
With poetic love poets create
and share all aspects of love-
from the ecstasy in an initial romance
to the heartache of the ensuing uncertainties
that will enlighten, guide, and inspire many.

So do not lock your heart away
beyond the searching reach,
the tentative grasp
of the longing heart
of a poet.

It may not be the kind love
that you are seeking-
that of sex and marriage-
but to seek only that one love
at the exclusion of all others
would be a tragedy,
more so when it excludes the love and caring
of a poet who has offered friendship.

This was a lovely write; one that has so much wisdom in its words. I agree with Nicolette. In the 19 months that I've been a member of this site, I've discovered some incredible things; first (and most surprising!), that I could write! Second, that there were so many talented, wonderful people who shared this love of poetry, and connected so deeply through this medium. I've made several friendships here that I have no doubt will last a lifetime, even though the poets and I may never be able to meet. I appreciate your message here; love is all around us, at any given moment. It doesn't always come packaged the way we expect, or hope, though, so we often miss out on some wonderful, warm friendships. Excellent write!

It really is true, that here we do not feel judged,,,,for the most part, and open our hearts to so many that it is hard to share that with outsiders, especially deep heartfelt pain...you make a very good point here. I guess that I have been blessed as much as I have been cursed in this life. Great job.

So very true, poets are very expressive to each other, where they tend to hide within themselves outside of poetry.. I loved the honesty of this piece, great thoughts and sharing of this..again as always thank you..Linda

It is really a thought provoking and very heartfelt work revealing the chapter of the soul where the poetry begins its travel through and through with the sentiments of the heart too. The thoughts are very beautifully stated making it an eternal structure of the concept. The write is very deep relating the meaning of the love with reference to an eye of the poet and its associates too. The flow of the write is very impressive and very slick.I really appreciate this work.prabhudayal khatatr

The title immediately called me in and I was not disappointed. Here on AP I have found some wonderful people, wonderful poets..and yes, friends. People, poets who reach across time and sand and touch each other so deeply and get to know each other so well...without ever having met - and isn't that wonderful. Of course there is the "other" kind of love too, but that is a bonus. A wonderful write of profound wisdom which I really enjoyed and appreciated!

This really says a lot and hits home. You have captured what many may be seeking, but not really knowing what the relationship is, a friend between poets. Excellent piece I can relate to this very much..Great insight you have my dear.

This is so beautiful, and really touching as well. It's so true that there is a love between poets, that is also very different from other types of love. We can truly empathize with each other, not simply through actions, but through word. We touch each other on a very personal level simply by reading another's penned thoughts. However, it also seems to me that poets can easily reach towards the "friend" love as well quite easily... perhaps this comes so easily from the love we share as poets.

Truly wonderful piece here... very thought-provoking when one stops to ponder, but very beautiful as well.

Yeah, this is so true bro. I love my poet friends so deeply. You know I was just telling someone else the other day that the only heart that can soothe a poet's heart is another poet. We reach deeply and there we find eachother. Nice subject to tackle bro. Well done!
