Love has no profit motive,
No agenda,
No conditions to perennate.
Romancing love
May not be love at all.
Love is not always stunning,
Or sane,
Or rational in earthly concern.
It is a sun that rises
On my morning to find me
Breathing in to face another day,
Undeserving as I be.
It is the moment I see you steal a dollar from my wallet
And buy you lunch instead of screaming for security.
Love is touching the untouchables,
The unlovables, the eyesores and the stinky.
Easy to love the smell of lilac
Blowing through the sculpted flower bed.
Love is action tainted with forgiveness.
Love is not you.
It is me loving you when you are least lovable
Or when I don't agree with you.
Love is
-A responsibility-
-A vision-
-A smile-
-A handshake-
It is making room next to me
On my righteous pew
When the aimless drunken
Smelly homeless guy
Wanders in to get out of the cold.
Some folks are easy to love
When they see things my way,
When they think I am pretty,
When they sing my praises and
Make me feel loved.
Much harder to love you
When you tell me I am wrong,
When you throw rocks at me,
When you steal my thunder.
Love is seeing the value
Of your presence whether it
Treats my eyes to candy
Or sits me on a tube of Preparation H.
Personal preference has no room
In the equation.
Only our mutual creator
Who loves us exactly as we are.

Thanks so much. It is quite a treat to get a trophy on this one. It is a subject dear to my heart and quite often those are the poems that mean more to the authors than they do to readers. It is always satisfying to have a poem that is important to us as an author get some attention from readers. When it happens, it makes all the effort worth it in the long run.

Definately hard to find those moments of love that are unconditional, but it is something we should all try with our feeble human selves to get better at . These are things that I am sure there are many people wishing to attain. I know that most of us people in human suits wish people would accept and love us just as we are, but since we really have no control over others, we just have to strive to realize what real love is and do our best to live by it in our own treatment of others. Of course, try as I might, I usually fall short

You described LOVE as it should be , but unfortunately very seldom is...."unconditionally". I have known and felt this kind of love , however in all my years it has never been from another HUMAN , for without fail I have always done or said or even looked a certain way of which one person did not approve off , or disagreed ( so I have only felt it from an animal that never judges us ) and only asks for the same curtesy in return. A write that provides mufh thought

This is a subject matter that has been looked at from so many perspectives, which is the inherent beauty of it, but you have given it a new look, a new face, a new feeling. Your poem reminded me a little of the ancient prayers and meditations, as well as of the famous Love chapter in the Bible from Corinthians 13. Bravo! Really sweet.

But I'm not so sure I get this sitting ON the tube of preparation H. Could this be easily misinterpreted? Understandably, the gel itelf is soothing, but the tube itself, being sat on? -

Love is such a hard and easy topic to write on and I mean easy if the person writing it applies the topic to how he/she perceives it and hard if the person who writes it creates it for how everyone/annyone might perceive it!
