The WOLVERINE,
the devil of the north.
Taking the bait while on the escape,
hunters most skillful enemy leaps away.
A giant rodent with a skunks use of scent.
The Otters are their aquatic relatives. They
delight in play though less than two thousand
are still left to be allowed to live in this world.
They play on
with long claw
and big flexible paws
nothing is more in motion
than a WOLVERINE awake, nothing
is more oblivious than a WOLVERINE asleep.
How I envy them
in their innocent naivety.
Space
for all of us to be
all in motion awake and tranquil
bliss asleep.
Let the northern lights glow
let the snow stay in its place
Life's flow
will go on without us too,
odd how little we seem to know?
Author notes
They were killed for coats, loved as hats
and labeled as the enemy,
devils to be destroyed.

Dunno the muse over here but something to do with the extinction of the wolverine species and then the poem becomes clear to me and brings to me a satisfaction of having partaken the same...Shubs

A very good poem, but you didn't quite use personification in the way i think of it. you didn't really give it 'human' characteristics, because all of the things you say it does are things that a wolverine does anyways. I would really like for you to re-enter my contest with another poem...if you're at all confused on what personification is, go to my poetry page and look at 'summer breeze', that is elementary personification. I would be honored if you would re-enter my contest. (I really did like this poem though, I just had to be fair and stick to my own rules…)

Ah, thank you for your kind comment I was concerned that no one knew of the Wolverenes. I think if they were to speak they would use those strong jaws to say that we were the strong and wicked ones. I will go and read your page.

This is a very beautifully penned poem of compassion for one of natures most beautiful animals though strong and wicked the wolverine is a very powerful animal and the images you have painted are very amazing thank you for allowing me to read comment and applaud this brilliantly penned poem of yours.. happy hollidays and peace on earth my friend..

I wrote it a few months ago, an outline of thoughts. Thank you for reading and your kind comment on a giant remarkable rodent from the far north that I once saw and will not again.
