Life is stark white
pristine walls
paper covered tables
achromatic coats
evaluating me
I walk into the room
lights glare
revealing, flaws
and cycled shadows
I’d just as soon hide.
Ms bleach pulls the paper
ripping new
Hands me a snowy sheet
disrobe
have a seat
wait…
I’ve been here before
- too damn many times -
ashen faced
perched on the table.
praying for good news
Dr “I think I can”
baby maker
in a lily lab coat
comes in.
Cold stirrups
lay back
legs spread
poke around
and all I can think is
the ceiling’s white too
I write another blank check
paying for hope
while my color is swallowed
in alabaster rooms
time swirls in milky moments
oysters taken
pearls retuned
numbers sited
as if embryo grades
should comfort me.
Then I wait two weeks
trying to infuse my life
with vivid colors.
till the call comes
and I think
hell is white too.
