If thy right eye offend thee...

(Doctrine vs Ritual round 959)

Of course it would be better

if Mrs McGreal could understand

the meaning of God

and particle physics

and why five children yesterday

were blown to smithereens.

But can we knock it

if  what keeps us sane

is the smell of incense

and a cheap plaster statue

and the sound of the Latin Mass?

Author notes

Something I wrote a while ago that was brought to mind by More5600's 'God as Idea. Read that.

This is so well done. I loved the spacing *as mentioned above* it allows the reader to read between the lines

I found this piece the other day and failed to leave a comment at the time. It seems to have drawn me back in though, so i Just wanted to leave a comment today. This is such a strong, solidly well done piece. The hypocrisy shown is understated and subtle. I so appreciate your economy with words.
Looking forward to reading more of you in the future.

thy right eye, thy wrong.. it seems there are always two sides to the vision of judgement.. we keep in order to classify this world of unknowns into our boxes of sense...well it does to me.. but then again I'm aware that sense and myself are not the best of aquaintances at times.

Your write interested me.. it seems to come at both sides of the coin, rather than side with either of them, a view one doesn't often find amid the die hard atheists and the devout.. yet if we were to suddenly strip this world of the 'saftey' of faith, what a mess I suspect it would be. .. but I digress..

you cant force me to have a quote.

Well, I say I am not religious and yet......do I believe, or what do I believe. I have this tacky little angel, blessed by the nuns at the Vatican which my mum in law bought back for me...Funny thing is, I do chat to her when I need a little help...but then I chat to talk to my flowers and the spider that hangs outside my bedroom window....Probably, if it makes a person feel comforted, I can understand. What knocks me time after time is this relentless murder.
A thought provoking write, which I suppose I dont really want to think too hard about, as then I would have to stand up and be counted on one side or the other.........
Well done, an excellant piece of writing.

Think it always comes down to tolerance. Trouble is, seems to me, that most religions are a form of crowd control and not in the least tolerant of differences in others. Still wish I could keep myself sane in this way though! Very good read vic. x debs

You express a nice sentiment. Rational, and well-written.

Yeah, this really works for me and I love the ending. I like the spacing because there is so much room to read between the lines. Nice work. -Al
