Cigars and Scotch

Poisons of choice
Cigars and scotch
Do I really enjoy the taste
or is it the thought
relax guy

I really do enjoy a fine Cuban cigar
can not get them in America(very often)
I had one at a friends wedding reception
his brother, a Merchant Marine's gift
a full box

Jamaica, I brought 5 cigars back
Could have been Jamaican
Could have been Dominican
Who knows?
But the labels in my book, they were Cuban.

It is very different to smoke a cigar
on a tropical paradise
from the bitter northeast
in November or May
In the Summer I guess
is as close as it gets
and that is not nearly close enough...

So anyhow my poisons of choice?
Are poets supposed to be notorious drunks?
I don't drink large quantities of scotch
But I drink very fine scotch
At most bars a step above top shelf
if stocked at all
$30. a shot
I brought a liter back
duty free
$34.
For the difference in price
I could fly to the Caribbean
buy 3 bottles and bring them back
Acquisition and adventure would be the reward
Oh and 3 bottles of really fine scotch...

Poisons are only poisons when consumed in lethal quantities
If used properly in moderation
to relax
in fact
you might live a little finer life
trading stress put upon
for relaxation
and what the hell, someday you will die just the same.

Enjoy yourself,
your life,
your wife,
whatever makes you happy...

I wonder though if when the trade barrier is dropped and Cuban cigars are redily available if they will be as good. Forbidden fruit? Jamaican cigars are good but can very easily be aquired. No scotch for me today, it is rainy and may turn to sleet, otherwise I would build a fire and sit by the river in my Adirondak chair and watch the river flow.

Man, I wish I had wrote this. I like my unblended malt and Cuban cigars too. I like this poem a lot, it reminds me of so much. Go pour yourself a small one and have a smoke, this poem sums up the whole experience perfectly.
