as i remember
i am thankful i am disabled
'cause many of my brothers and sisters
were not so lucky
when their time came
some never knew what was coming
but many did
we made our choice to serve
but only some of us were prepared
to make the ultimate sacrifice
i was lucky
i did not
yes i am thankful
yet i still feel guilty
why was i spared
when much better people than me
were not
i am thankful for them
and i hurt everyday
but my pain is made much worse
by those who are not
many did not choose to go
and they certainly did not choose to die
but they went
because they were asked
and would do it again
even if they knew the result
i love each and every one of them
and i wish their loved ones could know
but i wish even more
that you would love them too.
