Eencey Weencey

Eency Weencey was a very debonair young fellow. He was always dressed in the grandest mohair suit with a high back black satin collar. On his feet he wore the finest hand cobbled state of the art shoes with grand silver buckles. Upon his head he wore the most elegant grey top hat with a red silk band. Over his arm he carried the most beautifully carved ebony walking cane you would see south of Waikikamoocau.

It was a gloriously sunny day, not a cloud in the sky, and Eencey Weencey decided he would take a stroll around the estate and maybe visit his friends the Wigs and the Beadles. (Or was that the Beatles?). Yes, that is what he would do. Maybe even call on Harriette Hawsflie over at the Stables. It was such a long time since he had one of her family over for dinner.

And so Eencey Weencey donned his mohair suit with the high back black satin collar, placed his feet in his hand cobbled state of the art shoes with the grand silver buckles, took his elegant grey top hat with the red silk band from the peg behind the door, grabbed his carved ebony walking cane, and with the high steps of a country gentleman, he began his grand tour of the estate.

He wandered through the forget-me-nots, the buttercups and the daisies. Called on the Wigs at Dahlia Cottage but they all must have been having a siesta on such a lovely day for he saw no one there.
Next he called on the Beadles at Manure Patch Cottage. He didn’t see them either. They must have been to busy knee deep in the shavings and straw turning it all into compost. Oh well thought Eencey, I will go and see if Harriette Hawsflie is home. So off to the stable he strolled.

Low and behold there was no sign of Harriette anywhere. Eencey Weencey was most perplexed that none of the people he knew on the estate were home and this was most unlike Harriette Hawsflie for she was always buzzing about somewhere.
Just then he heard music and laughter coming from overhead and on looking up, he saw Harriette sunbathing herself on the eaves of the stable.
Aha, thought Eencey. I will surprise her!

At the corner of the stable Eencey spotted the water spout coming down from the roof. “That’s what I’ll do” he said. “I will climb up the water spout and surprise her.”
So off Eencey went climbing up the inside of the water spout, smiling to himself at the surprise Harriette would get when he popped out beside her.

Unbeknown to Eencey, that while he was negotiating the inside of the spout, a large black rain cloud came hovering overhead. Just one solitary rain cloud full to the brim. Just when it reached the spot over the stables it pulled the string that was holding all the rain in and woooosh! Down came the rain!

Poor old Eencey Weencey didn’t know what hit him! One minute he was warm and dry inside the spout the next he was spread eagled in a pool of rainwater at the end of the spout. Luckily his clothes were made of the best material and had not shrunk, for then he would have really been in a tight spot!

Having done its deed the rain cloud sailed away on the summer breeze and out came the sun and soon dried Eencey Weencey out. Meanwhile Harriette had hid under the roof and did not get wet at all and was soon back out sunbathing again.
Eencey started off back up the spout again and this time he made it all the way to the top. Poking his head over the top he spotted Harriette Hawsflie.
She hadn’t seen him.

Eencey took an enormous leap and landed on the sycamore leaf right beside Harriette.
“”Boo”! He yelled.
Harriette was so surprised she couldn’t even bat a wing.
Eencey wrapped her in his arms and legs and said, “I’ve come to take you for dinner”!

With that, Eencey twiddled his legs and from beneath his coat he produced the most lavish silk gown you have ever seen. He wrapped this around Harriette and took her off for dinner.

Eencey Weencey was very happy that his day had ended with a lovely meal even though his guest was a little astounded.

There are two morals to this story. “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
And
“Into every life some rain must fall. When it does, don’t let it spoil your dinner!”

Author notes

Eencey Weencey spider
Climbed up the spout;
Down came the rain
And washed poor Eencey out;
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain;
And Eencey Weencey spider
Climbed up the spout again.

    Waikikamoocau where is this place... a cool name btw. i think this story would have done very well in one of my old and closed contests where you had to rewrite an old farie tale or nursry rhyme in an oldfashioned adult style. this was very cute. i love knowing the story behind the little song. its a bit spookie since poor harietta gets to be the spiders dinner. i love that you gave them all cute names that sound almost like the kind of bug they were very clever. good luck in the contest and thank you so much for contributing this cute rendition of the old nercery rhyme that every child should know.

    Very cute story. It was an interesting take on the story. Have you ever heard the full rhyme to the Eensy Weensy Spider? It's long, but the spider attempts so many things but keeps on going no matter what.

    Oh Sammy... this one has me giggling and clapping my hands in my chair. I am so glad it is late here. I agree with Katie... i too love the story of the eencey weencey spider. It has always been a favorite of mine. And adding the moral at the end of both stories is just an added delight to see. Such profound words of wisdom to accompany two very charming and well told tales. I love the ending. You can write for me any day Sammy! Thank you again for another wonderful entry that both pleases and delights me. I leave your page with a BIG smile on my face! Good luck in the contest!

    Very Entertaining Story!

    Sammy, this is "perfect" it is one of my all time favourite nursery rhymes, it took me back to when my daughter was in pre-school nursery, I used to help out there and many is the time I sang along with the little ones to this wonderful little song. This story is the best you have written so far! I love the way you have given us a detailed account of what Eencey wore, what a smart little fellow he is his presence is very grand, his idea of fun when going to surprise Harriette provided your reader with some great expectations, what would happen? well, he got some of his own medicine I see, and rightly so! It's delightful to read how he went through the different wildflowers, that just added to the imagery, giving your story colour and much delight. The description of each of Eencey's neighbours and their abode is adorable. You do have a wonderful talent for storywriting Sammy, children everywhere would be delighted to read this story, along with the others you have also written. I have printed out each of your stories and have saved them in a folder, I often take care of my little nephews and neices and this folder will be great entertainment.

    Well Done my dear man
