sun in eyes
camera watching
don't squint
Sunrise
bright light
Blazing
can't see
Say Cheese
stomach growls
no breakfast
for Catholics
preceding mass
itchy dressing
pretty girl
wisp of wind
flipping skirts
giggles then
mom whispers
Act like a little lady!
What's a lady?
poke in ribs
from next door boy
elbow sharply left
OUCH!
He cries
OH NO!
i'm in
trouble again
in the car
off to church
front row seat
itching
twitching
pinch from mom
be still
church door creeks
turn around
pinch from mom
Act your age!
I am six
How do i act?
sitting still
itching
trying not to twitch
singing songs
Up and down
Up and down
Up and down
hear grown up
words
acting like a lady
I think
Acting my age
Six
lots of things
to look at straight ahead
Stand and kneel
Stand and kneel
Say your prayers
Matthew, Mark,
Luke and John
Bless the bed that
I lie on
whisper under breath
prayer I understand
at six
itch and wiggle
pinch
one last stand
singing songs
going home
out of itchy clothes
table set
Mm mm
Fried Chicken.
Author notes
Your picture reminded me of family Sundays when I was a little girl. I didn't always quite --get-- everything that was going on. My family rarely ate out, but some Sunday church ordeals were made well worth it by the bucket of chicket we would pick up on the way home. My mom often used the Sunday dress up occasion for taking a family photo and I remember squinting into the sun behind her back. Happy Memories
Well, except for the chicken. I have since apologized and I don't eat them anymore. Hopefully a few of them are happier today.

Lol, an hour of church in itchy little lady clothes seems an eternity when you are six
. And anytime we can make it through without a pinch from Mom, is always an accomplishment. Of course, now, the childhood memory of trying to sit still--unable to of course-- is much overshadowed by the pleasant thoughts that accompanied it.
Thanks for taking the time to stop and comment. Glad you enjoyed it. -
Oh, this is a great poem....lots of things itch when we are little....even church!
