abandoned by foolishly careless hand
left alone with pearls and blood
from far away a glittering hood.
Perhaps blessed by a satiny elf
that would stand in cursed land
polluted with silver.
A ritual? By two lovers, perchance
A combination of beauty
from last night's dance.
Faerie pearls, princessy white
defiant against blood hued satin
glaring at the moon
twining as serpents would,
round and round silver-
the fatal color of the wolf.
Author notes
I was in an unspeakably abstract mood when I wrote this, so perhaps... a little explanation? I know that explanation sometimes spoils the whole mood, so skip this part if you want. If the creator of the contest thinks that this is against the rules, I’ll remove it…
Silver atop grassy hill...
abandoned by foolishly careless hand
left alone with pearls and blood
from far away a glittering hood.
I visualized the silver car atop a hill, abandoned, with only pearls and a satin glove. From far away a glittering hood means that from far away, it looks like a shiny cap, shiny top, on top of the hill.
Perhaps blessed by a satiny elf
that would stand in cursed land
polluted with silver.
I also wondered that perhaps the 'elf' (it's not really an elf, just something to leave open space for imagination) left the pearls and satin there, as maybe a blessing, final farewell, something like that. 'Cursed land polluted with silver'. The earth is a cursed land in some way, no? Polluted with silver... Overwhelmed with money. Money is the root of all evil.
A ritual? By two lovers, perchance
A combination of beauty
from last night's dance.
I was suggesting that two lovers did –something- in the car, and that –something- is a sort of ritual, no? If you’ve read The Da Vinci code, ‘union’ is a sacred thing. ‘A combination of beauty from last night’s dance’… I was implying that the pearls and gloves were what the girl wore to the dance of the night before.
Faerie pearls, princessy white
defiant against blood hued satin
glaring at the moon
twining as serpents would,
round and round silver-
the fatal color of the wolf.
“Defiant against blood hued satin”. I was implying that the pearls are a stark contrast to the red of the gloves. And the glaring at the moon part… I got the feeling that the two items were rather ‘bright’, and thus glowing in the moonlight. “Silver – the fatal color of the wolf”. I was implying that silver is the colour of the bullet that would be able to kill a werewolf, thus it is the ‘fatal color of the wolf’.
All for now.
