The Hero

He would gladly fight
a thousand demons of the night;
Or slay a thousand dragons with a sword.

Give him mountains high
tell him he must do or die;
point out the mighty river he must ford.

Just please don’t leave him here
with her anguish and her fear
and no way battle at her tortured plea.

Throw him in the deepest pit
with wild lions and his wit
Just don’t make him face their infertility.

He feels helpless to assist
with her calendar or list
and he’s a man of action, you should know.

He was taught for all his life
to be a hero to his wife
and he’s failed to even make their child grow

Give him giants roughly hewn
Aliens from some far moon
He’ll protect her like he knows he’s meant to do.

He has boundless love for her
and it never did occur
There was something that he couldn’t quite subdue.

Still he wraps her in his arms
Where she knows she’s safe from harm
And he murmurs that he’ll never let her go

And she rests awhile there
Knowing it’s a burden shared
And he’s saving her without a single blow.

Author notes

I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for or not.

This poem is about my Husband Joe who saves me everyday. But especially today when we found out once again that all the Drugs and test and proceedures didn't work and I dispare of ever having a child of my own.

    Outstanding

    Oh Boy, found gold here,
One of the few who rhyme!
I hoped it'd prove to be clear
    I'd find another with time.

I believe your poems are real
    Reflecting your real life,
Things some would keep under seal
    But you choose to reveal.

For this I thank you Patricia,
    Cause real has more appeal
    Than the ordinary minutia
    Of the written unreal.

I thought this was a sad and touching little poem.

However if I can point out: line 9 doesn't make sense to me. Maybe clarify what it means?

Also I found the rigid rhyming scheme a little oppressive and heavy - it distracted from the message.

    Best of Luck

    Excellent

Technically a good achievement. Excellent structure and flow, and unlike many ryhming poems it felt natural and organic. A very good write.

A poem with a good message. However, I didn't ask for poems on heroism.

On the poem itself, I enjoyed it. The rythem went smoothly, and the rhyme between stanzas was a good technique that I like. The way the poem ran backed up the feeling behind it.

    awesome

I really enjoyed this poem i thought it was gonna be boring but then you showed a weakness to this great warrior and his weakness is also his strength and how someone can save another so easily just by being with them and holding them so sweet! i can relate awsome job!

My husband's name is Joe also, and he has been my savior from my depression for many years. My life is so much better now, and the depression comes not so often now.

This is a truly lovely tribute to your husband who obviously is a rare find. Hugs, Patricia ♥
