~:~x~:~

No gift but that Thou givest me,
No step unless I follow Thee,
No help but when I hold Thy hand,
No paths but those which Thou hast planned;
No love except for Thee it burn,
No want save one- for Thee to yearn;
No faith except I trust Thy ways,
No song unless I sing Thy praise.

"Our lives are defined by the absence and presence of God."
We really are NOTHING without Him.

    You misinterpreted what I meant by what I said in my poem.

    When I wrote "no song unless I sing Thy praise", I meant that I don't WANT any song in my heart or mouth UNLESS it's praising the Lord.

    Music is a form of worship, and rightfully should be used to worship God.

    I didn't say you couldn't get joy from other songs, either.

    I'm guessing that your definition of "Christian" music is pretty different from mine, as well- my definition is pretty conservative.

    I'm sorry you went through such a period in life. But, I will also remind you that any action you take is done by conscious decision, no matter WHAT you're listening to... I don't remember seeing anything in the Bible about music MAKING someone obey God's laws.

    You're entitled to your own opinions, of course. But I just wanted to make the record clear about the meaning of this poem.

    "No song unless I sing Thy praise" There can be music without praising God, it's just that people don't want to admit it. It's like those people who get all up in people like me faces saying stuff like "Oh you can't listen to secular music because it's got subliminal messages in it!" Well let me tell you something, when I listened to nonstop Christian music, that was when I was most unhappy and it was then when I started self-mutilation. But now I listen to a lot of other stuff, mostly non-Christian, and I don't do that anymore.

    Beautiful

    Oh, I love it. Your poems always have such tenderness about them... evidence of a true depth in your relationship with God. And look, you quoted me! That's just really cool. I love you.

    I like this a lot. People expect that this "God" will unconditioned help, yet cannot provide the love and concern for this being, which is required in order to gain his blessing. Beyond that this is such a nice little write. Goodjob.
