Isaiah 44:18
"They know nothing,they understand nothing,
their eyes have plastered over
so they can not see,
and their minds closed so
they can not understand"
Between the Lines
Nov 01, 2005
The wise man knows how little he understands;
the fool understands little of what he knows.
To know the unknowable,
to understand the incomprehensible,
this is the quest of many a life.
Who has the power to see through the illusions
to the space between the lines
of those limited questions in the mind?
This is the one who knows
how little he understands,
because he can truly see.

yes, laura,
we are on the same wavelength ...
a question which I ask myself very often as well, when I have the impression that absolutely nobody seems to "understand" what I am sharing through speech or written word.
the blessed presence of the few who are on the same wavelength as my own frequency, is a soothing balm for my soul ...
thank you for being one of them,

Dear maa,
Thank you for the wonderful comment. I am grateful that my humble philosophic musings have touched your soul. This particular piece is one of my favorites, and yet it is one of the most difficult to comprehend...alas, our need to comprehend things leads us into the dangerous cycle of being centered in the human mind instead of the incomprehensible serenity of spiritual truth. The realization of the fact that we do not know or can never understand the unseen truth, is quite upsetting and even threatening to the ego mind. It is our challenge to move past these inclinations to understand everything that is, really, beyond our limited understanding.
Your commentary is refreshing, in that I often wonder if anyone is on the same wavelength as I am. You are, and I honor your presence.

I have been guided to this poem of yours,
and would like to tell you how much it has touched my heart.
this is exactly the message I had to receive today, and it
has poured a healing balm on my soul, liberating it from the imprints of fear of letting go and of the feeling of being lost ... for, the more I seem to advance in my spiritual practice, the more I have the impression that "I don't know" ... which, for the mind is a very challenging experience. so, it invents all sorts of "seductions" and repeats all kinds of affirmations, positive or negative, (it doesn't make a difference, really), in order to get more "food" to survive ...
but "I" am only truly well and "at home", when I fall into the vast and peaceful space of "no-mind", where no separation can be perceived, where even an entity called "I" cannot be found ...
slowly, but surely, all the vasanas and samskaras come up and I can only look at them and wait until they dissolve into the space of presence ...
your poem, dearest laura, has imbibed me today with the courage and strength I need to hold on and keep faith during this very challenging process ...
for this, I truly thank you.
you have been my angel and guide today.
heartfelt blessings,
maa -
The people who think they know everything don't get very far in the end. They also end up telling lies and get found out anyway. We are never too old to learn something new every day.Good topic, Ros

To understand how little we know ~ This is what creates the thirst in us to know more. The ESSencial Thirst that motivates this life from the inside. Well written lines ~ simple and clear.

Wow, excellent! Bible study at your house on Thursday? Certainly to see that you do not see is one of the most important hurdles to the seeker. Most all that I meet who are on the Way, tell me that they are PRESENT in the moment most of the time... as you watch them daydreaming behind those eyes. To come to the point of Knowing that you do not know... that you are not HERE that you are asleep, to come to that place... is to begin.
As always you shine like a beacon in the fog. Wake me up!
Now lets turn to Corinthians 13... -
Good one, Laura. Somewhat zen like as well, in its own way. It is the foolish things that confound the "wise", and the wise who understand the foolish things.

Excellent job.
Well now I must say this is a rather respectful interpetation of this passage. You did as well as Isiah himself would have done. -
Thank you Faithful Dreamer. I enjoyed the quotes you gave us. I think I will have to read Isaiah. The quotes were quite thought provoking.
