Plagued With Innocence

Mommy.
Read to me a fairytale
in which little girls
grow old with little boys
and all is well that ends well.

Mommy.
Read to me a fairytale
in which families fight
their biggest brawl
over who is honored
with saying the dinner prayer.

Mommy.
Read to me a fairytale
in which little children
are not loosing limbs
in factories.

Mommy.
Read to me a fairytale
in which the difference
between life and death
is not hidden within
a stolen loaf of bread.

Mommy.
Read to me a fairytale
in which soul mates, brothers, and sons
are not sent marching
to their inevitable deaths.

Mommy.
Read to me a fairytale
in which love and honesty
is better known in lives
then lust and money.

But Mommy…
Please read to me a fairytale
in which the rest of the world
can see through
my eyes.
These eyes of a little girl
that can see the innocence
and truth in everything.

Author notes

It is true. A little girl can see the good and honest and purity in all around her. If only adults could see things through little childrens' eyes.
