My Dad And Me (Terza Rima)

There once was a time I was helping my dad
To fell some old trees on a friend's vacant land,
With boots way too big- they were all that he had.

He brought me along as a small helping hand;
A pleasure it was just to be with him there!
The work was quite grueling- those boots made it grand.

So sloshing in boots much too big for my wear,
I happily helped to fell many a tree
While fording deep puddles, and casting my care.

These extra large boots made a great memory
Of time spent together- just my dad and me.

Author notes

The Terza Rima rhyme pattern is as follows: aba bcb cdc dd.

I can't remember how old I was- it may have been early teens.  My dad actually took each of us kids, one day at a time, to help him fell some trees (I have four sisters).  It was cold and wet outside, but it was great fun to me to trot around in puddles in those huge boots- they were big, but they were warm and dry.  They also allowed me to spend time on this earth with one of the people I love the most- my dad.  And so, I am VERY thankful for those boots!

    Thank you- you just made it a "golden" memory- haha!

    Really- it was a great time, and I love my dad very much, no matter what he can be like sometimes. He's my daddy!

    This was such an endearing memory. A delightful read. Memories stay alive as long as we keep them in our hearts. Very nice. I wish you the best in the contest.
