I search for her romance in the shadows.
Is that her, under the archway in the drenching rain?
I feel her burning emotions deep within my soul,
then lose their fire in the cracks of the cold stones of the mossy lane.
Pitiless thorns tear at my arms as I pass, reaching out for her.
My blood is flown away on the darkest of wings.
The crimson trail leads me to her obsidian courtyard
where she awaits in her blackest of agony.
My love, forbidden, is the source of this poisoned romance,
of its broken promises, and of her shattered dreams.
Shut out in the darkness of night behind her closed gates
I cringe, and cover my ears as her silent screams pierce the hollow eve.
They resurrect long forgotten echoes in the chambers of my tormented mind
as I search for her being in the impossible labyrinth of her misery.
I shake the foundations of her gate again. I find it is locked with chains of animosity
and rusted shut by my neglect and abandonment.
The incubus of loneliness is upon her now, devouring her loveliness
and violating her soul, once offered to me, before my helpless eyes.
He jeers at me through the gate as he takes flight,
that my romance was not dark enough,
and in parting leaves me with a shriek that only the darkest romance never dies.
I break the gate and enter, and raise her limp body, serching for life;
her eyes open, glazed, fangs bared, and they take their next victim,
the dark romance now complete.
