The Endless War

Missing image

Since time began, the world of man
Has been divided down the middle.
The human mind is a vast mystery,
An enigma wrapped up in a riddle.

A fierce battle between good and evil
Has always raged, and it rages still,
Between those who serve humanity
And those who only want to kill.

Yet in all the darkness man has made;
In all the horror, mayhem and sinning,
The very fact that we're all alive today
Is proof that the good side is winning.

There have always been cynical pessimists
Who try to convince us that "the end is near".
"The human race will be destroyed," they say.
They seem disappointed that we're still here!

But here we are, and fight on we will
Against the evil forces we face today.
Forces of good must always be ready
Or hateful men will have their way.

Every one of us must decide individually
Which of the two sides we will fight for
And if we'll serve the light or darkness
In this desperate, bloody, endless war.

"You're part of the solution or the problem."
That's what the flower children used to say.
It's a decision that we each must make alone
If we want to improve upon tomorrow today.

This is a wonderful and interesting poem. I thought you might find it interesting to know that there are still a few "flower children" left in this world. One of my good friends called me from a nearby Wal-Mart the other day and told me that he was dancing with a group of true flower-children. They spoke of peace and being part of the solution or the problem. My friend was highly weirded out at first, then he thought it was pretty cool. I just thought it was interesting. This is a very good point that you have made though. Keep it up.

      Hey Sharon,

Somehow, I missed the message from you on this way back in 2/06. Thanks for sharing that story with me. It's nice to know there are a few flower children left. I think they were right about some things, but wrong about the idea that there's never any reason to fight. There are bad people in the world, and pure, unwarranted aggression against others that someone needs to stop, but I sure do love the idea of peace and hope to see it again soon.

I hope you've been happy and well.

    Dear Mark,
How are you doing? I hate alot about the war. I have a very special friend of mine over there right now. It kills me, I am able to see him on webcam so i do know he is okay for now..but that is always subject to change at any given time. I just hope this war ends soon and all our men and women come home. Thanks for all you have said about this war, no only here, but in all your writes you have dedicated to them. Your a wonderful man and always doing a damn good job at getting your point across.
    Much love to you hun,
    Tammy

The cost is always human lives for freedom. Sometimes we can limit the cost to less lives, but its always lives. In these days of mass murder and weapons that can kill millions, thats what we are trying to do. Limit the loss of life. The cost is always human lives for freedom.

Brilliant M, the last stanza says it all!.In order for things to change ,we must each make a concious decision to do in whatever way we can, a little something each day to benefit something other than ourselves. Love the background pic too... I remember well those years and the happiness we shared with so many. Excellent write.......Mal

Once agian you have written a thought provoking poem that we all should take to heart. I feel that with those who cannot decide (light or dark) will be forced to decide or the decision may very well be decided for them. It's not that they cannot decide but that they would rather wait and see which side is winning, in which case they stand along the top of the fence until someone comes along and gives them a push. In any case, war may not be pleasant but it is necessary to keep the demons of this world (human or spiritual) from dominating our world. Again I say this was a wonderfull write. Good Luck! ~val~

Marvelous write. Alas far too many will only turn on the televison and let them decide! It takes a great deal of investigation now to figure out the truth!

People have pondered this enigma for a long long time. and there will always rise up someone else to take the place of the former, on both sides mightier and more powerful. It's good that you're speaking of this. Be well.

War is an unfortunate event, but not a completely unnecessary one. I do not agree with the war the US is involved in right now. This is a really great piece of poetry. Excellent write!

    Hope you're right

I certainly hope you're right that the good huys are winning. Doesn't look like it sometimes. I guess the rich guys are winning. Is that the same thing? Or maybe the poor are just bad by definition and deserve to be stomped on.

Has always raged, and it rages still

I think you mught want to replace one of the rages, but thats just my opnion. This poem really connects with the reader, and it hit me awkwardly because now thinking about it, I haven't been to church in a while. Thank you for writing this.

*Added on* But one must think, the soldiers are over there doing what is right. They are the ones protecting us from all the evils of this life, and I believe that yes, it would be great if they would come home, but in some degree, they are needed over there more than they would be needed here.
