Cruel World

It's a cruel world out there,
full of its ups and downs,
      the former
          reserved for the lucky
      and the latter
          reserved for the rest.

It's everyone for themself,
and only the strongest
    survive
in this accursed
    capitalistic society,
where even the biggest fortunes
can be lost in an instant.

If you have nothing,
you are nothing.

Anything that is built
    can easily be destroyed.
Anything that is earned
    can easily be lost.

          It's all
          or none.

There are few safe havens,
and even those
    can be traps in themselves.
Government taxes abound,
the threat of jail
  for those who disobey
      is ever-looming.
Our paychecks
    never seem to be enough,
          never arrive fast enough,
              never last long enough,
to fill our appetite
for land,
      greed,
      power.

If you have nothing,
you are nothing.

It's a cruel world out there,
full of its ups and downs,
      the former
          reserved for the lucky
      and the latter
          reserved for the rest.

Good thing I have hotels on Park Place and Boardwalk.

Author notes

I'm sure hoping you all noticed this poem is about Monopoly. Tis a fun game, takes forever to play, but is quite entertaining. Now that you know that, reading back through it will make a lot more sense. Feedback is appreciated, as always.

Oh, and I am guessing that your riddle is about a Rubik's Cube. I like those things, but they're absurdly difficult. Most of my poems are riddles or big metaphors, if you want to check those out too.

It has been too long since I stopped by to read your work... Can't believe I missed this one. Wise beyond your years - sure you've heard that before.
Such a very true and sad aspect of our reality; the unfortunate way in which so many of us dread - these exact predicaments. Awesome write! You should write more (that's what they always tell me)!
Best wishes in all that you do!
