It’s only a Paper Moon

I never met a man like you
Who was afraid to hold my hand
Who goes with own feelings back and forth
This is not love, I can’t pretend.

Oh my oh my…
I need the silence for a while
Oh my, oh my…
No words, no any message from awhile.

I can see a paper moon
Flying with the wind of your words to me
Because you are chained, but not in the tune,
I know, you are not free.

This love was only a picture in the sky
Like the imagination without the aim
If you are not present, you can’t fly
You can’t follow me and my flame.

This is not love
You can walk alone
Without love
You can go home.

I know how world could be strange
You do not need to give it a name
But if you can’t be here
Your love and paper moon is the same.

Thank you Nicollete for your time and such a nice and analytical comment. This contest was a great challenge to do something different, somethilg like a tribute to Ella Fitzerald, her lyrics and her very special soul. This kind of poetry is related to my of work and my way to express my own feelings. Maybe, as Billie said for Ella, my heart is on sleeve, also.

A very lovely poem that indeed has a wonderful singing quality about it. I am not that familiar with Ella Fitzgerald's songs, but if this is anything to go by, then I am hooked! This poem or lyrics really touches the heart's deepest pain and I especially loved the last line Your love and paper moon is the same. Very lovely and melancholic. Good luck in the contest!

Well, this verses could be my tribute to Ella and her great songs. If I have done only a half of that what was on my mind, I am satisfied. Thank you Dee for this very precious comment.

Yes, this is Ella Fitzgerald, a fine lady and a wonderful singer. You've broken this into just the right stanza combination and a good take on the song lyrics

    Good luck in the contest

Thank you Billie. I am not sure for Ella, but I am glad you like it. Maybe it could be better, but, this is my present feelings about her lyrics.

A very accurate depiction of what Ella sung about. Her heart was on her sleeve, but her lover could not take it. A great write here Sonja. I am sure the marvelous Ella would love it.

    Blessed be
