I'm that wisp in the breeze
Gently caressing your hair.
I'm the voice that calls your name
When no one else is there.
When loved ones wrap you in a hug,
My arms embrace you too.
I'm the one who touches your hand
When you don't know what to do.
I'm in each sunset and sunrise
I'm in the in-between.
I'm with you in each day and night
You'll see me when you dream.
I'm in each creek, stream and river,
Cup your hand and sip a drink.
I'm everywhere you'll seek for calm;
I watch you sit and think.
I laugh with quaking Aspen,
My scent is of the pine.
My soul is like the evergreen,
loosened from winter's time.
You'll find me in the Rockies
Soaring above the highest peak;
I'll walk in deepest valleys;
And be anywhere you seek.
We had some good times, didn't we?
Stood strong through tough times too.
I need you to know there was never a time
I didn't love and cherish you.
I'm a little bit here; a little bit there
Watch those stars above;
When one sprints across night's sky,
I'm sending you my love.
Don't mourn too long for me, Sweetheart;
Don't sell your life to grieve.
I'm a little bit of everywhere;
If only you'll believe.
By Kelly Varner Johnson
Author notes
Though this was written for those who have lost loved ones to death, unexpected or otherwise, those who are left with just the memories, I'm hoping that maybe this will help bolster those memories if we can envision that they are truly with us still and we are all creating memories. If this helps ease anyone's grief, then I will have succeeded in my task. It certainly helped me when writing it. Love, light and peace to all!--Kel

This is truly a heart warming poem, Kel. It brings with it the everlasting love which we hold in our hearts for loved ones who have passed on. For me it really isn't a sad poem, but one of memories, thoughts and needed help in times of grief.
Your words here are beautiful, written from your heart... a bit of you given freely and poeticly. This one is going into my favorites, a piece worthy of re-reading
Love and
Dee

Dear Kelly,
Although you have labelled this poem "Sad" I don't find it sad at all for I believe implicitly that the spirits of those we loved and 'lost' are with us, whatever we do and wherever we are. Your poem confirms my belief in the most beautifully inspiring way. I am so happy to meet in you another believer and am sure that you are a happier and nicer person because of your beliefs.
Much applause for your lovely poem, love, light, peace and hugs, XXX Hugh.

-
-
Thank you, Hugh, for your kind words. I believe that all our loved ones are with us, around us, soaring and being loved. I'm pleased this poem soothed and inspired you. And I'm so happy that God brought you here and I can feel the glow off your spirit all the way across the pond! Wow! Thank you!
Love, light and peace to you and yours!

the rhythm of this poem was like a slow, steady breathing. when i finished reading, i was left with this feeling that if i spoke or thought i would break the beautiful silence (even though my siblings are playing video games right behind me). there was a silence in my soul. this didn't strike me as sad, but rather as hopeful. he is still here. he hadn't left. we just could no longer see him. it also reminded me of a lover who was far away, such as fighting in a war. the emotions were fabulous, the imagery fabulous. this is a beautiful piece that helped me and i'm sure is going to help many people. thank you for writing such an exceptional poem.

-
Lovely imagery and spiritual essence throughout. The only part I didn't like was the 3rd-to-last stanza--it was a bit too Hallmark-ish for my taste. And you got the point of the poem across without it. The metre was consistent throughout most of the poem, which is hard to do, but you really locked into it a few stanzas in. Oh, and I think the word you seek is "loosened," because "loosed" is a bit archaic in this context, but I could be wrong. Nice job, though--very touching.

-
Wow, this just Blew me away. This is really well written and the way the last verse explains the rest of the poem is incredible. I can feel the rush of emotions.
A verry good job!

Comforting
I love how the passed loved one gets to be a part of everything magical and beautiful. Its a comforting thought that those who have gone before us still pay attention to what we are doing and wish for us the very best. -

Beautiful
"When loved ones wrap you in a hug,
My arms will embrace you too.
I'm the one who touches your hand
When you don't know what to do."
This stanza particularly touched me for many reasons. I know the longing for the comfort and guidance of those no longer here and also the fear of leaving behind those who need a friendly hand to hold.
I know you wrote this for the living, but Death has been my escort for so long that I draw more hope from your words that those I love might know I'll never leave them than that I'm watched over by Guardian Angels I'm going to join. I know they're there.
"Don't mourn too long for me, Sweetheart;
Don't sell your lifetime to grieve.
I'm a bit of everywhere;
You only have to believe."
I do.

OMG Kelly,where to begin...WOW, splendid, trememdous, awe-inspiring. Very emotional but yet healing at the same time.
This was a wonderful write. -
Oh my gosh. I love this so much. It is so absolutely beautiful. As I was reading it, I thought of a mother talking to a child but any way you look at it, it is so beautiful for anybody who has lost a loved one.
-
Beautiful!
Kelly this is such a sweet and inspirational poem. It reminds me of that old song I'll Be There by the Escape Club. It's one of my favorites. This poem is very emotional but also very comforting. Anyway, I love this poem and am very sorry for your loss. Take care! -
Vilanger, I'm so sorry this made you cry! I am so very sorry. You've been through a lot, but just believe that those we think we've "lost" are not lost at all. We're all still connected and will be, always! Our loved ones are everywhere. Again, I'm so sorry for your losses. I absolutely know how you feel, and that's why I wrote this poem and the other tributes. Keep your chin up and be strong. I'm here if you need to talk. Just know that everything will be alright. It will. Trust in that, okay. I send my love and prayers to you and yours.--Kel

how could you do this to me? i have tears streaming everywhere. terry died over two years ago and this is so getting to me here. sorry i can not say much else right now. vilanger -
i really want to thank you for writing this. Even if this was written for a different purpose of comforting two wives, it still brought comfort to me. my grandmother died 8 days ago and when i read this i thought about her and her being in all those places. i also thought of my brother, fore he died when he was a baby, and this peice got me to thinking, if he to would be in those places with my grandmother and the two husbands, even if he never knew anything you described. This was an amazing poem and i am really glad that you posted it. I am sorry for your loss, even though i know it doesn't bring them back, i'm sorry. Great write. GB and GGHL. ~~~~~Bec~~~~~

I'm learning about this write and that, for some reason, it absolutely touches people and I thank God for that. These are so incredibly difficult to write and even more difficult to read again and again and . . . I've always stated that if one of my poems eases the pain for someone, anyone, then my job is done. Yet, this write has a life of its own and I'm giving it full power. I'm praying that this write eases more human beings. We're all dealing with death and loss, yet, if we can find some comfort somewhere, then let it be. Thank you to all and I love you all so very much! Be strong, hold that chin up and keep the faith--the latter being most important. I'm here if you need me. Be blessed!--Kel
-
You are so right! The Lord will never leave you nor forsake you. You are a believer, in the purest sense. I know you are experiencing testing moments--we all are--but I also know that we will prevail. Death may certainly darken a few of your days and nights as it will all of us who love. But, you won't be barraged by abandonment, because, first, you know that I'm here for you and so many others. You'll be fine. Just believe. Life can be so incredibly painful at times, and I've had to face that pain too. But, again, you will never be abandoned. Just be strong for me and know that this friend loves you dearly! Be blessed!--Kel
-
Joanne, thank you and bless you! These poems are the hardest to write because they are so close to home, but you made me feel like it was worth it, tears and all. Be Blessed!--Kel
-
This is truly beautiful. It is my life's work to realize that our moments here on earth are not all there is. Death and abandonment have barraged my life, but the Lord shows me more and more that He will never leave me or forsake - ever. Thank you for this very comforting poem. It is beautiful. - joanne

Hi Renee! I've been wondering how you're doing? I hope you're doing better. Seems we've both been in a slump but we can get out. Believe it! I'm here with you and for you. Always know that, okay? Love to you!--Kel

Hi, Kelly, and thank you for such a warm, inspiring poem. I too have lost people dear to me in the past couple of years and I understand what you've been going through.

I want you to know that I think of you often, hoping and praying that you're okay.

Wonderful
...oh wow. Y'know... there have been so many awful poems and tunes I've come across, that make me feel so terrible inside. Things that are so cliche and rehashed, but this...
Well, this actually made my eyes tear up.
A very, very sweet little tune, and it's beautiful, actually. The loss of someone can certainly bring out things in us, and in all honesty, this is a wonderful piece.
At first, it was hard to tell exactly what you were saying. Maybe it's about a lover? Maybe it's about nature?
As I read more, I found myself picking through, trying to find a rhythm, feeling for a song I guess. And through it, as I got further, I started to realize what you were saying, or what 'she' was saying, in your words.
The feeling of love and goodwill is overwhelming, but not to the point of disgust, I guess. So I suppose it isn't overwhelming. I'm not sure what word to use. Heh...
Reminds me of an Irish love song in a sense. Y'know what I mean? It's like something you'd hear sung in the highlands.
Blah, I'm rambling now, so I'll leave it at this: This is a great piece. You've poured full emotion into it, and that has made it touch me, as I'm sure it has to many others. -Dan-te-ku -
This is too beautiful! Omg I love this, so touching. You did such an amazing job with this, well done!
-
Thank you, hydrine, for your sweet comments on this poem. I don't recall asking you to read it, but I'm glad you did!
Maybe it was last night, when I pulled an "all-nighter." Anyhow, I'll be checking out some of your work in just a few, to return the favor. Thanks again! Appreciate ya!--Kel
-
Thank you so much, Kuragari91; I'm so pleased you enjoyed this heartfelt write. Tributes such as these are the most difficult to write because the losses are close loved ones. Afterwards, I always gain a sense of peace because I feel as though I gave them a gift, after they have parted ways, and I believe with all my heart that they know because they're always with us, always around us. I'm given a greater sense of peace and hope through the comments I read, because people suffering from losing loved ones, themselves, are taking away a measure of their own peace from this write, something they can hold on to, and that means so much to me. If it helps another grieving heart, then it will have done more than I could have expected, and I'm so grateful for that! Thank you, again, for such kind words expressed for this poem.--Kel
-
Thank you, Josephine! God has already granted us some peace, just now, through the words you have spoken. Thank you. Be blessed!--Kel

Oh my! I believe we have found our next world-famous poet! This poem was beyond belief! I just don't know what to say. I'm speechless, which is a first! I applaud you and would as many times as I can, but on this site that's once. Let me tell you, this poem was the best on this site yet! I love how lving it was and wish someone on this planet would feel like that for me! I applaud you for greatness, achievement, and overall brilliance. Congragulations on writing the best poem I've ever read!

Thank you, Suzanne, for your kind comment. I want to let you know how very sorry I am to learn of your loss, your child. I just can't imagine what you are experiencing in your grief. I have two grown children and can't even go there in thought, where you have, literally, been forced to go. It would be one of the hardest, darkest, most depressing times of my life if that was to happen. And, we never really know . . . we just don't know. I wanted you to know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers for as long as is needed. I already know time won't necessarily heal these particular wounds, having lost so many loved ones, myself, over the past two years, but I do know that our lives will go on and the grief will give way to sunnier days. And even when the rain falls, again and again, if we'll but look, we'll always see that beautiful rainbow. That rainbow and all the lives living around us will become the largest part of that cherished memory of a loved one, such as your precious daughter. And, when you next view a double rainbow, that will be your daughter tossing you one of her unique and beautiful smiles, that special smile that exists between you and her only. She'll be telling you that she's with you, everywhere, and I know she is. Bless you, Suzanne. You carry the "burden" of a mother's heart, and a mother's love for her child/children is equal to none. If you ever need a listener, IM me. Sometimes that's all we need. Again, prayers and thoughts to you and yours. Light, love and peace.--Kel

This is indeed a comforting poem, Kel... it's beautiful. About a year and a half ago, June 2004, my former husband passed away. We had been divorced for several years but had remained close and caring friends. I know we still have the capacity to hold love in our hearts even after divorce and that is the case with he and I. His death was totally unexpected and I still feel grief for him. He was my friend and I miss him. Your poem has touched me, in its gentle way ... he's still around and sometimes when I feel a special touch but no one's there, I know it's him.
Your poem is a sort of confirmation for me
A lovely and meaningful write with a precious message.
Love and

Uncloyed sentiment
This is a beautiful, personal poem of love and caring promised. It is a poem of sincerity and love in lovely traditional stanzas. It is the kind of poem one feels could not have been faked simply by being in love with love! And, I am not thinking romance. Kelly, this is a poem of compassionate love that stands out, for me at least. Lyndon.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin, Nat. It's hard, I know. I hope my poem eased some of your pain. I really do. Another uncle of mine is battling colon cancer now, same town as my mother and late Uncle Roy. Lost him some months back. Mom is still in remission for her ovarian cancer. But, in 2005, we also lost two babies. That's rough. I'm here if you need anything. Haved learned a lot the past three years from many rough and nightmarish experiences, but my spirit is stronger, my mind more content now, after coming to my own understanding. Have done much thinking, pondering, crying, and now I've got to get back to drying the tears of others. That's what I'm best at, and seem to be more prepared now, if that makes sense. Life is strange, but our connectedness becomes more and more apparent with each passing moment. There is no time. It's just now. Just now. Love to you, Friend! Prayers and thoughts your way!--Kel
-
Thank you Kelly.
We just found out one of my cousins is on a life suppor machine and it isn't looking good for him either... Hes only 31.
this is beautiful and sometimes we forget to see it this way that their bodies maybe gone but no matter where we are they are with us constantly. We take their love, and memories with us.
Just beautiful...
I can't remember if I have read this one yet, but I read it again anyways
Glad to have you back

"I'm in each sunset and sunrise
And I'm in the in-between.
I'm with you every night and day;
You'll see me in your dreams"
These lines are wonderfully written..and thanks for writing them..at least you thought that we could share our troubles and that would lessen it more..This poem needs to be applauded..by everyone who reads it..but most importantly for the warmth that it provides to a reader..
"Don't mourn too long for me, Sweetheart;
Don't sell your life to grieve.
Though I'm there, I'm also here,
If only you'll believe"
And these lines about faith and believing has been written wonderfully..its really great..good job...hope you write more.

What a beautiful poem. Me being a believer in spirits really hit home with me. I love the way you chose to use your metaphor. Comparing all the worldly creations with a natural spirit that chooses to still linger along side their loved one. The rhythm and rhyme is impeccable. Fine write!!!
An insert from one of my poems:
"And if one day you feel a sense,
a whisper in your ear.
Don't be alarmed, it's only me,
to let you know I'm near."
Smiles your way

This poem is so deep. I really love this poem. My favorite part is when you say "I'm a little bit here and a little bit there so watch those stars above; when you see one sprint across night's sky, I'm sending you my love." That is my favorite line. Keep up the great writes.

Dear Kelly,
What a wonderful poem taking into account a thousand thoughts of lesser poets in your stride, and spreading them across the mountains in Colorado – I have a very dear friend that has just moved there and is sending me wonderful photos of the trees in the fall –
I know you have suffered a lot through the past year – and I sincerely hope God will reward your unwearied love and understanding on behalf of others – with an incredible coming year that nobody deserves better than you –
Love and Best wishes for 2006 – Your distant poet friend – Albert.
