Festive season!

I am counting down the days,
To celebrate the victory,
Of good over evil ways.

There is cheer everywhere,
And the lights are all inviting;
After all the festive season is here.

Discounts on this and that,
With attractive freebies and compliments,
It is peak sales that shopkeepers aim at.

Queues build up outside stalls,
Be it clothes,sweets or crackers,
There is always a rush outside malls.

Tune in the TV or the tape recorder,
And you are bombarded with advertisements;
That announces for itself that the festivals are round the corner.

Tradition and family value strengthens,
As families get together,
To share the fun and emotions.

India has always been known for her colours,
And it is this time of the year that explains,
why we got the "Incredible India" honours.

Lets celebrate this year's festival,
In a pollution free way,
So that Mother Earth can celebrate with us all!

Author notes

Yippee!!!The festival season is here and I can't help grinning..

    Hey Porchi, I finally am getting around to seeing this! I liked the imagery, because I could imagine it, and now I am interested and curious about the festival! I love festivals where there are tons of people outside having fun, like our independence day here where everybody goes and watches fireworks together and it smells like food and things. Well, now I want to see it, it sounds cool! I'll have to learn more about it, India-ignorant person that I am, but I wish I could experience this firsthand too, it makes me want to go to a festival right now. There was a festival in Seattle here that I used to go to when I was little, and they had all kinds of music from all over and foods and things, and I used to love going to it. Hope it will be good (or was) for everybody over there!

    -Ben

    Sounds like I am obsessed with food...

    Festive season it is and your poem epitomises my tag to it being my favourite festival not for all the pomp on display but for the way the tradition unfurls itself ...doing away with anything remotely "western" and our own our very own is made incredible==Shubs

    The cilmination of everthing is unbefitting in some ways. The way the poem goes on it is rather un-anticipatable the way you went with it. Other than that little suprise (of what I consider some thing of the lacking kind) this was decently written, nothing extraoirdinary, but at least not something despicably common.

    Wonderful porchi I liked this especially the rhytm and the last verse because its high time we realize that these festivals should be celebrated with mother nature in an environment friendly way. Good work and thanks for entering this lovely poem.
