Thought In Time And Space

Matter preserves thought through time

(stone, parchment scrolls, books, film, tape, discs, individual's brain cells)

--And--

Energy conveys thought through space

(metabolism of camels, postmen, fuel of transportation burning,
electricity running computers, and radio / TV waves in wires, coax, through the air, individual's action of speaking)

---------------------------------

First, thoughts were passed down by word of mouth,
By the energy of the vibrating air.
Air can carry many words from mouths
With room enough for a crowd to spare.

Today words pass through fiber optic cables
Along with pictures and a whole lot more.
Important business and children's fables.
The whole world of info is at our door.

Abraham's thoughts did not need
More than a camel to go and come,
No more than parchment to succeed.
Today's communications are making the world one.

    Words are magic
They transport us through time and space, can make something from nothing and change the world.

    Very thoughtful poetry

    Write on poet!

I'm afraid that the intended meaning of the final stanza escapes me. The biblical reference seemed to be forming a critique of modern communication, but I cannot discern whether "making the world one" carries a positive or a negative connotation.

"The biblical reference seemed to be forming a critique of modern communication"
I meant for it to be merely a contrast through time then and now of the technological development in the advancement of communications.

"I cannot discern whether "making the world one" carries a positive or a negative connotation."
      You decide. Whatever you think.

I read the top part and was a little confused. Then I read the rhyme and wasn't sure how much I liked it. Then I went back and pieced it together... ended up enjoying it. Wasn't instant gratification though.

This is a thought-provoking piece, as can be seen by the comments it generates. Considering the subject of the poem this seems almost inevitable. I enjoy the content and the rhyme, but as another notes below, there may yet exist opportunities for enhancing its rhythmic flow.

Information technology exists in the tiniest nanos of creation, and the programs generate programs to generate programs. It is the nature of existence to inform itself and thereby reform itself. The speed of change against inertia is relative to gravity which increases with the volume and density of mass. Accumultated information is ever increasing in volume and density, so more information is flowing to it faster and faster.

Black is the color of all colors or lights combined. A theoretical black hole is an incredibly dense accumulation of energy and center of gravity. The black hole of information to which being is speeding is not emptiness or oblivion, but the Alpha and Omega of the knowledge and wisdom of existence. That is "the undiscover'd country from whose bourn no traveler returns," and there, who knows "what dreams may come!"

This is a very great original insight --

"Accumultated information is ever increasing in volume and density, so more information is flowing to it faster and faster."

    Very, Very Thought Provoking!!!

Very thought provoking little piece you have written here. The rhythm and flow slips away in spots, but the lesson you teach here more than makes up for that
    Thanks for sharing.

    Gleto Orica,

I do consider that the Good Book says God created the Heavens & the Earth, but It didn't say how He did it
    ---------------------------------
"spoke" them into existence. I'd say "willed" them into existence. (see allpoetry.com/Poem/1792161 )

understanding a more full view of our part in all of this mess of matter & gasses...the physical is ever changing...molding into one thing, one place to another...still yet all the same...& beyond the physical comes interpretation...or more rather forces guiding...of course that's an intricate process to get into...but it is apparent...so much so not to be denied...

I love your thinking. You would like my poems on Time and Purpose. What you wrote above is quite beautiful and is very enlightening. I mean this. Thank you. --Ellis

    FantabulousSpace!!!

I find your mind to be quite Universally connected to all things...still asking questions, giving possible ideas for interpretation...though none of us know for sure...I like the way you type...talk...what ever have you...thanks for sharing this interesting piece of free moded thought...I do consider that the Good Book says God created the Heavens & the Earth, but It didn't say how He did it...of course...as long as we are in the physical, we shall find paradox & contradiction...for the world is wrot with it...yet, these descrepancies are helpful in understanding a more full view of our part in all of this mess of matter & gasses...the physical is ever changing...molding into one thing, one place to another...still yet all the same...& beyond the physical comes interpretation...or more rather forces guiding...of course that's an intricate process to get into...but it is apparent...so much so not to be denied...I as well, like to accept that there is even more that transends the physical, & even these forces...& so it goes into our choice...of how we are a part of it all...separating ourselves from the process of naturalistic ways, & creating our own...of course no matter we mimic nature, or more rather we are as stars cycling around & into each other...& matter coming together building universes all our own...in our own special ways...yet...it's still different...what we mold is out of this cosmic dust...we take forms to another level...by our choice to understand...our simple, yet complex forms of communications, & means of process aren't done by far, yet have come a long way...just as everything else...this thought be though...are we suppose to be this...or are we suppose to see past this...?...there is much study on four dimentional viewing techniques...where people can train themselves with help of vertual reality to see four dimensional shapes...& in fact, those involved no longer bother as much with 2 or 3 dimensional figures...but base their decisions from their new found perspectives...which...perception is aside from physical...although it is in itself relying on physical to make it's way known...it is all thorough us...but, why all these stories of supernatural beings, & happenings...?...I suppose I could keep typing forever here in this box...& get to no other place than where I began...but...all the crap aside...I still dig what you're throwin' down...

    though,
    I still like to say...
    there is no time,
    we merely messure moments...

    Great!

Thank you for your comment on my poem, 'Love Mercy'. I want to draw peoples' attention to the minor prophets, my original aim in writing the poetry. Well, now I am hooked! I just read this poem of yours, and I am so glad you shared it with us. I look forward to reading the rest of your poems.
