My definition of School is a place
where you arrive and walk through the doors
A place where you only have two floors
a place you knew since you were six
a place where the teachers always know what to fix
a place where you have grown in body and mind
a place where your seats have always been assigned
a place where there are people you have known for years
a place where you have actually shared laughter and tears
a place where you've been shown small sense of personal power
a place where just next door there is a church tower
A place where you see the younglings every day
and sympathize with them in many a way
A place where you can fellowship easily with friends
a place where imaginative mischief never ends
a place where you have your second meal five days a week
a place where all are encouraged to read often and speak
a place where my knowledge has greatly increased
a place where you can see tombs of deceased
a place where no one is ever deemed the least
A place you can love the truth that is taught
but can disagree with when hearing certain thoughts
If you could sum up all the lessons learned
and the deeds and words given in return
If you could put together all the memories made
with the hope that none would quickly fade
The thousands of ways one could explain
their personal account of School
not only have to do with the brain
but of the outcome amounting to a prized jewel
Author notes
(yes I know the spatial logical fallacies..just ignore them)
Younglings = children
I switched schools when I was six but the school i've been going to for almost eight years I see as mine...

I like how you group everything into one great thought. I agree with all that you had to say in that poem. i would like it if you could read some of my poems

I've stayed in private schools all my life, and largely with the same people throughout my life. I agree, people in the school create a huge part of how the school shapes a person.

when I was younger my parents did a lot of moving, and it seems I was always the newbie in class. however, my own daughter attended schools in one district from kindergarden through high school, so I can certainly understand the spirit and association tied to your school in this poem. pretty good writing, my only suggestion might be to delete some of the "a place" beginnings to the lines, let it run its course over several lines before repeating again. other than that though, you have truly created images which school means to you and which the reader can SEE in their own mind's eye.
