God's Love In Ashley Smith

The two commandments that cover it all
Are love God and your neighbor as yourself.
And love your enemies, those who appall.
This happened in Atlanta you may recall.

After killing four people a hostage was taken.
Ashley Smith, a true Christian, tied up at first.
Christian love for her captor was not foresaken.
She reached his heart, following chapter and verse.

She saw in him a fellow human being.
He responded to her care with respect.
It was his heart that she was seeing,
Not treating him as the murder suspect.

They talked of God and of family.
She cooked pancakes for their breakfast.
After 7 hours he let her go finally.
He peacefully surrendered to police at last.

That woman's love and support from God
Saved her life and accomplished the job
She needed to do to save other lives.
God's guidance of Ashley Smith survives.

Hate doesn't work -- while love does.
Ashley Smith gave us a demonstration.
Confronted with death she did what was
The right thing to do to the relief of the nation.

Yes, Ellis, I remember this and I was shocked, but this time I wasn't shocked about the crime as I usually am--I was shocked about the reaction of Ashley and how it turned out. What really saddened me was that some people dug into Ashley's past (like we all don't have a past!) and discovered some skeletons in her closet and then they started to demean her and the coverage she was getting as being hailed, both a Christian and a hero. I doubt they do that when the victim turns up dead, having been treated brutally and murdered.

Ashley Smith turned this situation around in more ways than people realize. She's a warrior angel in my eyes, a peacemaker, and an incredibly strong Christian woman whose love produced a miracle. God was watching over Ashley Smith and may He bless her and her family. Paraphrased--If God is for us, who truly can be against us . . . Thank you for this tribute to Ashley Smith! What an example she has set for the rest of us! Be blessed! ((Hugs)) --Kel

What a wonderful witness Ashley isfor the Lord, and thank you for telling us her story. It is most humbling. How many of us would remember to not only call on God in times of trouble, but act in faith and confidence that God is there throughout every experience.
