Vietnam in the news.
Calico and sleeves of lace
Dancing without shoes.
Hipster jeans, fancy beads
Flowers in our hair.
Peace imprinted in our hearts
Love echoed everywhere.
Saffron babies, born from love
Weened on solid rock.
Hippies sharing pipes of peace
Traveling to Woodstock.
Janis, Dylan and Hendrix
music made to last.
Santana and Jim Morrison
Legends from our past.
Music dominates the air
In the heat of sixty nine.
Buzz and Neil make history
A giant step for all mankind,
Psychedelic memories
Tied up with purple haze.
Embroidered on life's tapestry
A reminder of carefree days.
Author notes
Just everything about the 60s inspired me to right this poem, music, fashion, colour, the news headlines. Just the whole memory.

Princess Perdue;
You've told the story very well. The chronology of your poem is a striking parallel to the way I remember the time. I like the way you have incorperated some of the language of the day. The words and phrases add much to content of your poem. -
Another excellent piece. Rhyme and rhythm, perfect. Captured the whole essence of the time. Think you may have the winner here. Good luck.
-
You wrapped the whole year up tie-dye and peasant skirts ... loved it!

mmm, 'scuse me while I kiss the sky.
Excellent rhymes! This was a very unique poem and it seemed almost perfect to me. Anyways, nice picture, too. -
Growing up in the 60's was great and I was going to university in 69 - not much time time for this kind of partying then. The music rings a bell though. Enjoyed the read.

Besides the drugs and the anti Vietnem...ness? lol... I think I would have been a hippi if I was born back then... ever heard of the Rennisance Festival? It's ran by (new age) hippi's and I always planned on traveling with it, kinda like a circus!
I like this poem, for someone who has no idea what a hippi is, if they were to read this, you pretty much hit everything they need to know! Great job.
Amanda -
Ah, nice... gives an idea of what it was like to live back then. Thanks for entering.
