Portrait of a Lady

Look into my eyes
And tell me what you see
Can you see the truth inside?
Do you see the real me?

My outward self is only a shell
You see what I’m willing to share
My heart and soul are locked up tight
Release them, why would you care?

This person you see
Standing right where I’m at
Is not who you think
But then aren’t we all like that?

I'm not sure where the existentialism is .. in any obvious way but then again, existence is existence..

Lovely little rhyme. I hope it was a big hit at your poetry club.

    thank you.

I liked the theme and story that you weaved into this, it had a very unique sing-song feel to it. I didn't think it really said much about existentialism or the human condition but it rather explores the feeling's of one's heart, which is very impactful I offer, but I don't see how this explains life in its entirety... hmm, maybe just a part of life? Love and loss? Anyways, thought it was splendid and an enjoyable read. Cheers.
