bits of red and gold
land on my head like streamers
lost within my hair

The haiku is mature in all the ways that underscore your talent Carter. You handled the 5-7-5 form perfectly (even though I am acutely aware that you often use less syllable counts in other haiku pieces, consistent with modern composition). You also handle both the traditional nature and seasonal elements of haiku beautifully, even bringing in a bit of nice playfulness in the notion of the leaves of autumn falling on and getting lost in your hair. At its core, though, this has haiku's appreciation of nature -- there is a delight in the image you convey, and in how it is expressed. A perfect haiku.

I can just see you standing under an old oak tree with leaves in your hair as a kid, (or adult) this is a very pleasant picture you have painted with this ku! Thank you very much for writing-for and entering this contest and for following all the rules. Best wishes
