Small Talk

We spoke, the other day,
of Freedom;
and Loganberry jam.
And we thought of Sex
And said
Our Prayers
And
'This is what I am'

I think that life needs none
of these sophisticated ways!
How can we think we know the sea,
who only see the waves?

In a list

What did you think

there is a lot of things that this poem can mean but first of all, i love your poem, especially the simplicity of the first verse ... i've never heard of loganberry jam... this has such a lightlessness yet gives so much food for thought...well written

Unfortunately, I don't often have that problem. I tend to blurt - embarassingly so, its part of being Libra. (or at least that is what I blame it on)

    Nevertheless, enjoyed.

Nice job! Very intresting, the message being communicated is quite powerful through your words you have used to represent. I do really like this stanza:
" think that life needs none
    of these sophisticated ways!
How can we think we know the sea,
    who only see the waves?"
    Keep it up

Thanks for the comment, Billy. Sometimes one gets a fortunate turn of phrase that seems to capture things. Wish it happened more often. vic

Difficult to respond to this one. (simpers modestly) but thanks. I value the compliment.

    succinct and pointedly right

sophisticated ways only go on to complicate and compromise our real gut intentions. and i'm just as guilty. think its a condition and, maybe no cure. too scary to come out and actually say what you feel. well, that's me anyhow. loganberry jam has always been a real good diversion for me.

I too have been struck by the way we talk and say nothing, and listen but hear nothing. The waves are deep and we cannot truly know them. My thoughts...

Wow. I'm quite speechless. You said so very much, using so little language. This technique makes quite an impact. Makes one think a bit, for sure. Really beyond well done!

This is fantastic, on the surface it reads as a very simple poem but the more I read it it started to resound with hints of a deeper meaning. It has started to get me thinking.

The last line reminds me of the great mystical poets Rumi and Hafiz. It is refreshing to read such simple true beauty.
