A Rose

Beautiful as a rose
Red and white petals
Water droplets shimmering in the sun
  Magnificently created by God

Kindness shown from the rose
Sweetest smell rising to my nose
Enjoying ever second in its presence
  Keeping the rose safe

Butterflies in my stomach
Longing to be with the rose
Being careful not to damage it.
  Loving... the beautiful rose.

Author notes

I wrote this after thinking about my exgirlfriend (when we were still together). The rose is metaphorical for her.

liked the first stanza... although i thought the reference to God was slightly out of place and i didnt care for it much.. (im not anti religion or anything ) the second stanza had a nice rhyme to it..
to me it seemed like you rushed an end to this... i didnt like the end much.. overal it was an oke piece im sure your ex would have been happy with a poem devoted to her...

    wonderful

I was named after the Rose of Sharon, but in this case it was
ourLord. I do love roses though. The scent is heady and seductive and the flowers always look like satin. You surely put a lot into your poem and it is very well-written.

I love the metaphor! Graet use of imagery and personification. It perfectly symbolizes how frail and sometimes ephemeral love can be. I also love the simplicity of this piece and how it gets the point across in so few lines. Keep up the good work!

Roses have always made wonderful metaphors, but I hate it when I get pricked by those thorns.

    Indubitably majestic

Oh the fragrance, the very essence, of the majestic and enchanting rose; "similarly is this fragrant praise" and none better fits such a description than "THE ROSE OF SHARON." Thank you for sharing such beauty.

Since recently relocating to Christchurch, I was too busy to notice any comments on my homepage. So now that I have, thanks for you gracious one “as beautiful as this Rose.”
