October's Fond Childhood Memories

As in my own childhood memories,
I recall the scent of burning leaves.
All the neighbors rake their yards,
cool crisp days scent carried far.

Canning veggies,fruits and berries,
with my mom and instructions varied.
Have to can and store for a long winter,
all we can or we'll grow much thinner.

But I remember all the fun playing,
leaping in raked leaf piles claiming.
"This is my fort,go rake your own!"
to other kids I played with at home.

Wispy gusts on windy days silent,
I'd sit in revelry and dream defiant.
That when I'd grown I'd have it all,
money, home and be rich and tall.

But chores I had to do for right now,
feeding chickens and livestock Wow!
The nanny goat was birthing kids,
a storm was brewing something big.

Time to stall and lock the barn doors,
pitch lots of hay and pitch out more.
I hated cleaning out chicken poop,
from their nest in the chicken coop.

Looking forward as were all friends,
to Halloween night and candy binge.
In home made designed costumes all,
scary ghost and goblins big and small.

So you see it wasn't all work and no play,
with friends attending my Oct.29th birthday.

What a marvelous rendition of fall on the farm!
These memories are the fantasies that fueled
my childhood as I grew stuck in a small city,
wistful for wide-open spaces and a hand in growing things. Blue

Oh what memories suseann. I remember spending time on a farm when I was a kid but never did I live on one. Not a "real" one anyway. Sometimes thought I was living in a zoo though Very nice trip down memory lane suseann.
