we all bleed red

I walk into a restaurant
for a sub and a coke
I see you girls
you sneer you laugh and you joke
you judge me by my skin
without knowing the me within
you make comments most unjust
because my paleness you don't trust
I show my love in the way
my heart says I must
You hate me because of my man's skin
but let me tell you this
my man,
has a pure heart
you need to wise up
and realize this fact
it is the 21st century
remember this
to get back on track
a fact we all must concede
when you are cut
what color do you bleed?
In the grave it won't matter much
whether you are pale or you are dark
we might just be neighbors
you and I
in that cemetery park
When we get sick
we go to the same place
the doctor, the hospital, the morgue
and when we are cut
what color do we bleed?
Yes, I give my love
to a black man
and yes I have white skin
but  if you take the time to heed
you will see
when we are cut
what color do we bleed?
we all bleed

Now that I'm a member, I can comment on this poem. This is an excellent poem and it's so true. I wish more people would think like this. My father is a racist and it always bothers me. My aunt is dating a man of color and my father thinks it's so wrong. She's really happy and I'm happy for her. I've witnessed discrimination first hand with my friend that's Korean. We had both ordered the same drink at Pizza Hut and the waiter brought my drink, but he didn't bring hers. It was like she wasn't there. It really infuriated me. She had to ask for her drink twice. And when she finally got it, he just sat it down in front of her like it killed him to do that. Believe me, he didn't get a tip.

Very excellent write. Everything you said is true. Many people do judge people by the color of their skin and not by their heart. I am a believer in judging a person by their heart and not by the color of their sin.

It's such a shame that this poem harbors so much truth. Too many people base so much on the physical traits people possess instead of the things that really matter. I think you did an excellent job of capturing this in your poem.

this is very well done and rings so very true. Alot of people look at others for thier shell and not thier heart, and that is really sad, and not only that, but it dwindles down to the children. I wish this world would see the beauty in people and take more intrests in diffrent ways, that thinking they are stupid or not true. I am very impressed in this writing, the only thing I would do diffrent is center it for a easier read. Besides that, this needs to be seen by all and if this can change just ones persons view, then it was very well worth it!

    Blessed Be,

    Angel
