Ctrl-Alt Del (Form Poetry)

Ctrl-Alt Del

I
am
sad,
tears
come
pouring,
rivers run
over my
face.

I
do
wish
I had
known
you Del,
but never
did we
talk.

I
so
cry,
for a
person
who has
punched
Ctrl-Alt
Del.

Hi, Shahrzad! Yes, it's a sad poem, even the words cry. The photo was needed to take the sting of the sadness... Thanks for the comment, and the applause. Jim

Hi, Annalise! I am thrilled you liked my poem. Yes, while searching my mind for what to write, among the sadness came a little chuckle, as I thought he'd hit ctrl-alt del. I am sure Del would have liked it, aswell as the teardrop form. Thanks for the wonderful comment! Jim

This is a wonderful tribute to who was one of AP's finest. I also liked the use of ctrl alt del...istead of something as mundane as died, and which also was an indirect reference to Del. Very well written, and the teardrop form is splendid.

very nice format here... Like teardrops. Must have been a challenge to write, but you seem to have done quite well. I liked the use of ctrl alt del, with the indirect reference to Del... very clever.

    small but perfectly formed

That is a brilliant piece of writing. Well intertwined ideas, grouped together in perfect droplets so minimally and with seemingly no effort. I wish I had known this Del.

Thank you, NeverGiveUp. Yes, it was hard to write this poem, for many reasons. First of all the form, secondly the contence, and finally to find a way to take the stinger away... Thanks for the comment, and the applause! Jim

I like how the last line uses computer lingo instead of just saying "died" or something similar. Very unique and less tragic sounding... still not without emotion. You did extremely well in shaping the poem like tears. It must have taken you a long time to figure it all out and make sure it aligned correctly. Nice job!

The tears within these words are heartfelt. Del would have loved this poetry shaped like tears. I have cried a small flood since hearing that one of our great poets here has passed over. The beauty of the soul is that it weighs the same measure as the individual. Del had a particular spirit that touched the depths of all he met. He will be missed. The words that are left we will cherish. I am sure his family will love this work of word-art. I can see Del smiling now. Thank you so much for adding this creative poem to this tribute collection.

    Much Love,
    Renee

These teardrops are very well done, and the words are wonderful too. There are two little things, in the first stanza, tears come is the correct plural, and a typo in the third stanza, Crtl-Alt.
My life was enriched by the encouragement I received from Del, and though he had limited time, each word reflected a kind thought. Thanks for your sympathy.

Thanks for the comment, Manoj. I'm glad you learned something new. Form poetry is an amazing thing, and with some clever thinking, it can become a masterpiece. My suggestion to you is that you write your poem in another program (i.e. Words) that uses same style as normal AP-text (not textbox block-letters), and see how it forms. Remember though that unless it's centered, shapes must be "started" with a character (i.e. period) at the beginning of each line, to make the spaces filling in to the left of the shape valid... Good luck!

    a fine tribute

An excellent tribute to a poet who was obviously well liked and respected.

I have to confess that it was only after his death that I read some of his poetry, which in themselves, are a fitting memorial for a gifted poet.

Thanks for sharing this - in a style I have only just come across. Well done.

    Teardrops! How very, very clever!

Jim, Excellent use of shape poetry here. It is so sad, yet a wonderful tribute for Del. Although I never got to know him, from all the comments on his home page it seems he was highly revered not only as a poet but a great person. You have an excellent memorium to him here brother. I wish you all the best in this. Love and blessings, Joyce

I think the tear drop thing is very clever. And I especially liked the content of the second one. In the first stanza you've written "comes" but gramatically it should be "come". I think in the third stanza the words "that now" don't quite fit. I think something along the lines of "who has" would be more fitting and would get your point across more clearly. Your use of computer terminology is very original and is an effective way of implying death without stating it.
