Restless Nights (Sestina)

The hour has struck it is now time to sleep.
I have rushed all day; it is time to rest.
My mind will not comply with my need.
My brain fills my head with images and thoughts.
I lay restless in my bed wide-awake.
How I long to begin a peaceful dream.

Would those images and thoughts turn to a dream!
All I ask is quite slumber, brief sleep.
Past mistakes and regrets keep me awake.
My guilty psyche refuses to rest.
The goal is refused by distracting thoughts.
My consciousness mind foils my body’s need.

Lust disguises itself as a true need.
Sexual fantasy becomes the dream.
My body is tempted by wicked thoughts.
The new tension declines my need for sleep.
The intense battle provides me no rest.
My tormented anxious mind lays awake.

I plead with my God to rise and awake.
Only my Love can satisfy my need.
In Abba’s tender arms I long to rest.
“Still my restless mind with a peaceful dream.
Allow my body to finally sleep.
Enter in and take control of my thoughts."

My Lord quiets my battling, warring thoughts.
He stays the evil keeping me awake.
His love song stills my soul so I may sleep.
He shows me once more He is all I need.
He enters into my tranquil sweet dream.
I am at last at peace and found my rest.

In my loving Abba, my soul finds rest.
He imparts to my mind His tranquil thoughts.
Heaven becomes my hopeful, peace filled dream.
He will watch over me till I awake.
In the day He will meet every need.
While I await for my eternal sleep.

Heaven is my dream; Abba is my Rest.
Be I in peaceful sleep or restless thoughts.
Asleep or awake He meets all my need.

    Great poem

This is a beautiful poem; however it is not a complete sestina

    Satanza's 1 thru 4 are perfect

the fifth stanza should end with the words in this order
    thoughts
    awake
    sleep
    need
    dream
    rest

    sixth stanza is missing
    rest
    thoughts
    dream
    awake
    need
    sleep

    the envoy ends perfectly

you can work on it and edit it and I will come back and read it again.

I dread those seemingly endless nights when thoughts won't shut up and allow slumber to bring rest. Very nicely done sestina.
    Best wishes in the contest.
