.......A Day in the Life of a Syrup Queen

Missing image

From one side of the building to the next
I trudge my weary day
10,000 steps
day after long day
mile after long mile…

I
have a job.
Someone has to do it,
and I need one.
A nice partnership.
So I check things.
Call me what you want.

Paperwork, labels, weights,
leakers, micro-samples, flowcharts,
swabbing for allegiants,
even taste,
nothing escapes my scrutiny.

M
y tools are my brain,
safety glasses, ear plugs,
and steel-toed shoes,
which are a slip hazard
if you ask me,
and too clunky for romantic dates,
but OK for breaks;
we get three 30-minute breaks in a 12 hour day...

T
aste?
Yes, syrups, jellies, icing,
all things imaginable!
Mayo, mustard, ketchup, hot sauce, relish, dressings, marinara,
vinegar, corn syrup, lemon juice,
the list goes on… but I won’t bore you with that,
there is enough to be bored with already
with this bleary-eyed tech…

L
eakers?
They are little robots
that patrol the floor
and zap any workers
that get out of line
or breaks that are too long,
while the supervisors
play cards in the office…

B
ig, noisy machines,
rolls of film,
products packaged in the middle-
one crease in the film and splurt!
product all over the place
or spoiled product to customer.
So products undergo tests,
many tests... many many tests...

yawn… sorry… long 12 hour day…
I’m seeing things-
packets, robots, tests...
climbing up machines to get swabs,
maggots in the Picante sauce again,
accidentally going home in my hair baggie…

such dreary days you think would kill a person;
however a person can, and will, endure much suffering, however,
given a little humor, some friendship,
and an occasional moment of true love.
zzzzzzzz.

Hello, and thank you, my beautiful, sleep-deprived international-flavored daughter! I of course will tinker with this one until people cry at the end! A dreary life being bearable with a little love...!
your tinkering AP Dad! O^O (my glasses...)

...I have to agree with Grandma that this could almost have applied to you as well, with your long hours and such! You keep needing to take breaks... which probably isn't healthy, but who am I to judge, the one who sleep 4-5 hours a night anyhow!

Anyways, onto the actual piece, I really liked this, it was refreshingly funny. You described this really well. I loved the robot part, with our technology nowadays, perhaps it is that way!

    Good job with this Dad!

    your boring AP daugher

I like that this poem is about work. I guess I never thought about writing about work. It's very clever and flows nicely. Great piece!

Montez- of course no offense taken, this piece was featured for two reasons- one, to break up the monotony of the featured fare and entertain a few people, and two, to generate useful and prodding feedback, of which you provided the latter! Nay, the featured area should not be our final audience, but our first!

This is not something I would choose to feature, but there again, I'm a bit of a rhyme freak.
This is more like a very short story, and not a particularly good one at that.
    Sorry if this offends.
