Free Bird

Once there was a bird, hopping with a broken wing
Hopping through the forest, the bird began to sing
No fear of the trouble, its carelessness would bring
Just enjoying the beauty of the trees and everything

In the bliss of the bird’s singing it didn’t notice at all
A dangerous pit, where the poor bird was about to fall
Indeed it did fall in the pit; and in fear it did call
O my Lord, someone help me, Quickly!  Do not stall

The Lord looked down mercifully, and an angel was sent,
To rescue this poor bird from an unfortunate incident
But in the bliss of its falling, the bird became content
Mesmerized by free falling, it forgot about its descent

And when the angel caught the bird it demanded to be free
It said I am enjoying the bliss of free falling! Don’t you see?
Please let me fall just a little longer then you can rescue me
Don’t you know how wonderful the feeling of falling can be?

The angel, in its wisdom, knew this was a very bad mistake
But now the angel was helpless; and its heart began to ache
Because free will is a gift from God, even an angel cannot take
The angel knew it had to let the poor bird fall, for heaven’s sake

The angel pleaded with the bird; but its pleadings were in vain
The angel had to let go of the bird. There was no time to explain
After enjoying the brief fall, the bird hit bottom, and felt the pain
Then replied; Lord I asked for an angel’
But I should have asked for a brain’ .
