More than That

I remember that show
in the sketchy little place
and we went there sometime ago
but it wasn't our first shot
and i felt so small as you held my hand
the whole way there
and in the heat of your anguish
due to
my cold-hearted stature
you began to give up on me
one last time

but as the night drew on we found ourselves
heaped in a mess somewhere lost
along the beach
you were figuring out you were through
and i was finding out what was wrong with me

so i took a chance that night under the stars
i let you chance me like cat and mouse
and watched the word move out from
in between us
and the space it left was no more
than the distance of mind and body
we were stuck with this idea
we were stuck on some idea

that maybe one day wed get this far
or far enough to make us remember
but i can never forget that cool late august night
i was looking at you the way you were looking at me
and the rick i took i must admit was
a little far fetched
and you wanted everything about me
and wanted to figure you out

and soon enough between the moon and the sun rise
you became mine
and you began to forget you just about gave up on me
and i finished remembering i was afraid of you
but as the sun was coming up
and my eyes were chilled with sleep
a kiss was the last words you said to me

and baby I'll never give up that Tuesday to anyone
i meet
and I'll never give up those moments we gave up on defeat
cause a year later and a month or so to understand
this wasn't just a feeling
we have
its more than that
