As summer light fades
And fragile leaves begin to fall
I watch you wave goodbye
And I sink below the surface
Into memories of…
Your rosebud lips … the softest coo
Velvet baby skin…a fragrance so delightful
Eyes that told of wonders long forgotten…
Cotton candy kisses…sticky hands in mine
Mommy, tell me a story…sing me a song
Chubby hands lifted in the air…I love you mommy
Watch me mommy…look what I can do
Mommy, I have an owie…
A single magic kiss smoothes away the pain
Push me higher…I want to touch the sky
The days passed so quickly,
Now what lingers here is…
Laughter and tears, memories and dreams
Beautiful brown eyes filled with hope
Sticky lipgloss kisses…manicured hands
Mom, listen to my story…Do you like my favorite song?
Lets go to the mall…I’m going out with friends
Hands clasped together…I love this guy…
Mommy, it hurts so bad
Can you make it go away?
I hold you in my arms
And brush away your tears
Tell you a story…sing you a song
I push you a little harder
And watch you touch the sky

There are so many wonderful memories, arent there? They grow so quickly...I can still feel the shadow of my daughter laying next to me in bed, cuddled up with her stuffed animal waiting for a story. I am glad this touched your heart.

Angelic friend, I cried when I read this poem. I had spent some time the previous evening IMing a young friend - barely 18, and as dear as a daughter to me - who was heartbroken. This poem brought a whole lot of feelings back to me, remembering my own growing, my children starting as infants and becoming young men, the way I had recaptured motherhood with my "web-daughter". I got overcome. But never mind ME - this is actually a very beautiful poem.
