The whistles are shrill
and echo up the valley.
Samuel with Bible in hand
is walking up the dusty lane
his mind wandering over the tips
of the dangerous daffodils;
mid-wording lip to God
such is the trip along
fading whistle
murmurs of pious lips
the bird's song
buzzing of bees;
Did not mimesis sing
of like things
Rings of maidens
bearers of the bard's dream.
Oblique
the wretched King
dependent on tithes and Fees
the fleet steeds of the high sheriff
and captains of the gun.
Do not misunderstand;
a bit of Job,
Ecclesiastes
some render unto Caesar
it's only a little ways to go
to the tiny chapel in the dell--
on the morrow
there will be the crash and din
of siege
as another citadel falls
by order of the King.--
in just a bit
there will be the sound of song
the flutter of wings
the buzzing of bees.

Your biblical references are very sound. I loved this peice.
You obviously read the Bible. Great job and God bless.
-Billy the Kid- -
an excellent effort ..though i am not much aquainted with the biblical stories i still think i can catch the drift of your poem ..and the similies you have used are very good ...embellished with the phrases likecaptain of the gun etc this was a very well constructed poem

I see travelers in tunics and sandals meandering down lanes lined with flowers and the call of war in the distance mixing with the hum of bees. Voices raised in sorrow and eventually in hope for the future.
Wistful and sad. Liked. -
Brilliant
AND
and always there is night in days:
night in many ways
of dark.
and how the Star shows us to glow!
and how the Sun shows us to grow!
and then, instead:
how we whither in its heat!
as simple then as songs of wings
and Belle's rings
and shadows of soft weeping trees:
this dream is.
and eyes of doves.
and cries of wings.
and poems for kings.
poor kings.
poor bees.
and who will taste its honey --
since it died of stings?

Why do I like this so much?
This is beautiful, so much so, I can't tell you how much I enjoy this. The words you use fit so well, I don't know how they've been used any other way! The form, though not really visable, is there.. the structure is loose, but still very straight. It is like reading a very old poem, but you are not old, you are alive still!
Even though I know very little about the bible, I still feel this piece.
It's like a chocolate pie.
Wonderful! -
mimesis?
Had to look that one up.
I can't help but love when you use Biblical stuff ... its so familiar, all the stories to me ... and all so different looking too. Blake-ish or could be residue..
Really it reads like vintage Lute.
in just a little bit. indeed.
