Canyon: My Little Soul Son

I mourned with my memories
Of 17th century Ireland
The life, friends, and lover that faded
But most of all
The child whose life was wrenched away
Within me with my dying breath
My son

But there's a wonderous gift
After all these lonely centuries of sorrow
I've found you again
That soul I had such a bond with
As only a mother can

You're such a light in the world
With that sandy spiked hair
Golden and Hazel eyes
And the mischevious smile
That five year old charm

When I first saw you I knew you
I knew you with a trembling within me
Tears welled in my eyes
And when you ran into my open arms
A scarred part of me healed inside

Yes you're someone else's son now
With a different name
But I have my second chance
To watch you grow up and live
With all the gifts you bring
The chance I never really had then
Oh precious child I love you so!

When you cry
Something wakes in me
And suddenly I'm cuddling you close
Soothing your hurts and wanting everything
To turn out alright
And tonight as you snuggled up next to me
And said in that small gentle voice
"I love you..."
I laughed and cried and answered in return
"Canyon little one I love you too"

I thank the Creator again and again
For sending this spirit back into my life
Tina's little boy
And my eternal soul son
To me you'll be both Kiernan and Canyon
And the mother in me will always watch over you
With patient and loving eyes.....
