Mutually Assured

While talks of peace persisted,
The gunfire slowly desisted
'Til nary a shell
Was left when it fell
And the world no longer existed.

They said it was done in protection
But from whom, dare I ask, in reflection?
It seems we're in danger
Of ourselves, not a stranger,
And our excuses face neither direction.

Now dear Eden, once so green and growing,
Lies burnt with its insides showing,
Yet it's beautiful how
Even God's made to bow
Beneath mankind, damned and unknowing.

Author notes

Mutually assured destruction. It's gorgeous.

Ooo this is cool-limericks for a new purpose. I like it! It's dark, and neat that way! Nice job.
